Inspiring Conversations with Joshua Lastine of Lastine Entertainment Law PC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Lastine.

Hi Joshua, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from a small town in the middle of Iowa. Growing up, I knew I wanted to be involved in the entertainment industry to help creatives make content. I went to college in Iowa but went to law school here in LA/Malibu at Pepperdine Law. I got some great opportunities early on, which allowed me to build a robust entertainment law practice that covers a wide range of media and content creators across film, TV, music, social media, etc.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a challenge. From starting as an “outsider” to my first unpaid internship to my first job at CAA, the financial realities of living and working in Hollywood have always been a challenge. But I have always had my eye on the long-game prize, which is knowledge I can leverage to help elevate my clients.

Also, Hollywood speaks its own language–and you got to talk fast. I am lucky that I learned quickly.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lastine Entertainment Law PC?
Lastine Entertainment Law provides robust services to individuals and companies working in all aspects of the entertainment industry. We represent artists, agents/managers, production companies, and influencers, servicing as a genuine advocate that helps unlock potential and empowers talent. Our entertainment law firm focuses on the business interests of artists so that they can spend their energy evolving their skills, honing their craft, and living out their passion.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I feel like I grew up in the best time–Facebook was not a thing until I was a senior in high school, we still played TAG outside at night under the street lights. Growing up, I was fascinated with the Hollywood stars of the 90’s and the art of storytelling. I was a weird kid–I took college-level economics and literature while still in high school and majored in both in college. Storytelling has always been a big part of my life.
