Inspiring Conversations with Jasmine Butler of Juicy by Jay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Butler.

Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a proud HBCU graduate and my love for gloss and connecting with women inspired this brand. I’ve always loved glosses and natural beauty so I wanted to create a lip product that I use every single day but is more than just a moisturizer. I experimented with different ingredients (sugar + spice + everything nice) and fell in love with what I created. I shared it with my friends and family and they loved it too, and that’s when I knew I was on to something.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business and stepping into something new is always challenging! Some challenges for me were finding ingredients and creating products that I was proud of, understanding my brand voice and how I communicated my message to my customers, managing the business tools and online platforms, along with preparing for a successful launch — all before I sold a single product.

I’ve only been in business for a very very short time, so I know I have so much more to learn, but I think the most valuable thing that I learned was to just do and keep doing, that’s the only way you can make anything happen. Entrepreneurship is not easy or as glamorous as it seems, but it’s worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Juicy by Jay?
Juicy by Jay is a vegan, cruelty-free beauty brand created under one simple assumption, Baby, you are beautiful!

Our signature product, Lip Jelly, is the perfect balance between lip gloss and lip balm. It’s non-sticky but has high shine, light pigments and ultra hydration. It’s the lip product you’ll use every single day and never get tired of.

My community is very important to me, so we donate to programs that empower women and facilities that protect women everytime a purchase is made. Every woman, no matter her situation deserves respect and reminders that she matters and that’s what I hope my products do.

I’m still very new to this business, but I think my proudest moment is all the support and genuine excitement about Juicy by Jay. I am proud to see my Cousins (customers) so confident in their products, from family to complete strangers. It’s an amazing feeling.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the beauty industry will continue to see many more diverse voices and genuine representations of all kinds of people. Products will be and clean, innovative products that are cruelty-free.

I believe that it is not just about a good product, it is about a great product that people can feel good buying and using based on brand principles.
