Inspiring Conversations with Iman Muhammad of College Girls Closet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iman Muhammad.

Hi Iman, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My hustle and ambition comes from growing up in Los Angeles. I literally lived all over from Inglewood to Watts and everywhere else in between. Although there were so many odds stacked against the youth like myself I always looked to the legends that represented Los Angeles like Kobe Bryant, Nipsey Hussle, Tiffany Haddish and so many others who truly showed that there is hope no matter where you come from. It could also be that I am a Leo so naturally as lions, we are always ready to go after what is ours.

I would not be who I am today without the love of my parents. They are my rocks, they hold it down like no other. And they always taught me that by keeping the Most High first, the opportunities to my success are limitless.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, most definitely not. It always seems like when you take ten steps forward here comes the devil tryna take that progress away. I remember being in college 3000 miles away from home and missing out on holidays family moments and not having my loved ones close by. But there was always this tenacity I had to keep going for them, I am a first-generation college student so every decision I made and make now will affect my future legacy.

So I applied that same mindset to my business. There may be days you may not get a sale, may even be weeks, you may be stressed about where the funding will come from, there may be times where you are ready to give up on your breaking point but then you receive order, your customer’s lists start to grow and all of those uncertain moments and tears feel worth it. It all makes it worth it when someone loves your brand and appreciates your hard work. I always say companies like Netflix were not popular overnight it takes that tenacity and consistency which I am still learning to use to this day.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I graduated from Norfolk State University in 2021 with a degree in Mass Communications and decided that I wanted to try the entrepreneurial route by beginning College Girl’s Closet. It was an idea that was created right before the pandemic. I was so annoyed with always having to find outfits 20-30 mins away from campus just to be disappointed with the options. So I figured why not create a brand that not only sold fashionable items but that were targeted to young women like me who were ambitiously creating their own lanes and wanted to look fly while doing it.

I think what sets CGC apart is the purpose, I am not just selling clothes; fashion has always been a passion of mine since I was little playing in my mom and sister’s closet. I relate to fashion to my moods which is why I love bright colors it builds such a confidence level you feel unstoppable. My main goal is to make every customer feel like the best version of themselves anytime they are rocking College Girls Closet. Whether it’s a pair of sunglasses to a dress you will always feel and know that when you put that item on, you can do anything you put your mind to!

I am most proud of being able to reach young women in 12 states in counting. Like little me? I have always dreamed about reaching people as many places I can. I am still in awe I own a whole business little Iman would be proud. College Girl’s Closet offers timeless and classy fashion you mix and match to wear to any event from dinner dates to girl’s nights out or vacation we have it all from accessories to dresses to 2 piece sets. You will definitely feel confident and comfortable statements.
