Inspiring Conversations with Faith Abili of A-Billi Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Abili.

Hi Faith, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A-Billi Cosmetics was founded, inspired and throttled by the mission of inclusion, diversity and representation. Like many people in the BIPOC community, growing up, I did not see myself included in the eurocentric standard of beauty the cosmetic industry portrays. I guess you can say it instilled a sort of determination in me to make Us the focus of this brand. Founded on March 19th, 2021, A-Billi Cosmetics has been devoted to accurate representation for our community, as we are a BIPOC centric line. When I initially started this line, we started off with two collections and 5 products in Houston, Tx, we have since expanded to 5 collections and 16 products and are now based in Houston and Los Angeles. Being self-funded, collections are not always launched as quickly as we would like, but staying dedicated to the production of quality products and our mission has ensured our progress. I believe what has allowed for the success and progression of this line is the commitment we have made to continue to uphold this mission. Everything started with the promise to empower our A-Billi Baddies and promote a more inclusive standard of beauty and we haven’t stopped since!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not always been fun but has always been worth it! Being a self-funded, self-run, brand- we are not always able to push things out as quickly as we would like to. In comparison to these beauty giants, we move relatively slowly but always intentionally and impactfully. Another struggle that we run into is usually when it comes to the promotion and expansion of our brand. One thing I am not willing to compromise on is our mission- we see it time and time again where the desire for instant gratification leads to the compromise of a company’s morale or mission. I am very committed to the true diversification of the beauty industry because it has been such a long time coming. Oftentimes, we struggle to align ourselves with certain collaborations we are offered because it may go against our mission or we have to decline certain opportunities if it does not align with our values. I believe now more than ever; our community needs to see a brand that holds steadily to their commitment to our community, as it is bigger than just us. This is bigger than Black and white, it is the calling out of racism, colorism, featurism, fatphobia, homophobia and more. We are a brand that allows our customers to feel seen and empowered- that is worth any struggle we encounter.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about A-Billi Cosmetics?
We are A-Billi Cosmetics, a BIPOC centric cosmetics line catered to redefining beauty in the cosmetic industry. We specialize in the production of affordable quality, paraben and cruelty-free products with vegan options. From buttery pigmented eyeshadows to sultry lipsticks and glosses, A-Billi Cosmetics has just what you need without breaking the bank. When people hear the name A-Billi Cosmetics, I want them to feel a sense of empowerment and assurance, that they are seen, they’ve been heard, and we’ve got them. This is what makes me proud- it is an honor to be able to share the products behind the mission with you all, and to have our customers resonate with the values of this brand and enjoy our products is a dream come true. It is our influence that makes me most proud- as small as we are, with the ethics we are founded on and our adherence to making a change in the cosmetics industry, we are well on our way.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am so thankful to be part of this article- I just want to leave your readers with one thing. Do it! Whatever “it” is, whatever that burning desire is in your heart, it is there for a reason. I don’t care if it’s been done a million times- there is absolutely nobody out here that can do it like YOU. We cannot allow this world to humble us into silencing our dreams, someone out there is waiting for the contribution you have to offer. Dare to be different, dare to be bold- it will pay off. To those who feel unseen in this world- we see you, I know firsthand how important it is to have some sense of reflection, not just in the beauty industry, but at all. I hope this brand provides a safe space for people to be allowed expression of self and acceptance.
