Inspiring Conversations with Domonique Rodelo of Details By Domonique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Domonique Rodelo.

Hi Domonique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I turned twenty-five I decided to turn over a new leaf and start my own business. I have always loved everything design-related. I love fashion. I love hair. I love interior design. But one of my favorite creative outlets has been designing for events. I’ve been decorating for my family’s events for five years now. I’ve done my best at enhancing birthday parties, baby showers, and weddings. I would almost always get asked if I do party planning as a side business and I’d always reply, “No, I just do it for fun.” In 2020, I was unable to work in the salon as a hairdresser due to the sudden closures. I applied at various jobs but to no avail, I was unemployed. Shortly after, I threw myself a boho picnic for my 25th birthday. I built picnic tables and decorated for the occasion. I ended up getting so many compliments on my work I officially decided to start my business.

I recently had a client say “Aw cute, so you’re like a Covid baby, business.” This statement made me laugh, but there is truth in it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a young mom has definitely motivated me to overcome many obstacles in life and with my business. Oftentimes the role of being a mom, a wife and an entrepreneur can be overwhelming. I’m constantly learning new things everyday in each of my roles. I struggle with anxiety and this past year has been an emotional rollercoaster but sometimes in the best way. I’ve grown tremendously with my social anxiety since I started my small business this year. I’m lucky enough to have a great support system behind me. This is definitely a family business. My team consists of my mom, my husband and my two boys. My oldest son is my professional balloon popper. My youngest son is my pillow tester. My dad helps me build the backdrops. My mother in law and father in law are also there for me whenever I need them. My husbands’ family are some of my biggest supporters as well.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Details By Domonique?
Details By Domonique is a boutique rental, event decorating, and event coordinating business. Details By Domonique specializes in event design and styling. Some of the rentals in my inventory include picnic table set ups and backdrops. In addition, I am a balloon artist, which means I create custom balloon garlands for various events. To date, I have planned baby showers, birthdays, weddings, etc. I also dabble in floral arrangements, which has become one of my favorite aspects. I’m a detail-oriented individual who entered this world of events fueled by a passion for design. I feel like my style is unique in a way where if a client brings an inspiration picture, I’m able to create something similar but still carry the personality of the client to the decor/event itself. I ultimately enjoy having a vision and turning it into something the client is proud of. I’m mostly grateful for being given the rare privilege to take part in some of the wonderful milestones in peoples’ lives. Every milestone in life should be celebrated. <3

I often do giveaways and special promotions on my Instagram @detailsbydomonique.

How do you think about happiness?
Family, Friends, Food, Coffee, Sneakers. My true happiness is the ability to come home to my smiling, healthy children everyday.

I am proud of many things in life but nothing beats being a mama.

Coffee is a warm cup of happiness and is definitely my mom fuel.
