Inspiring Conversations with Bridgitte Jackson-Buckley of Little Visioneers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgitte Jackson-Buckley.

Bridgitte, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Early last year, I read the following quote on Ava Duvernay’s Instagram feed:

“Stop waiting for a door to open to follow your passion. Build your own door, then walk through with your own creative aspirations and accomplishments and hold it open for those behind you.”

The post spoke to me and I never forgot it. As a newly published author trying to make my way into book festivals and onto author panels, it seemed like I was trying to open a “door” that was not only closed but bolted shut. I had conversations with many authors and found I wasn’t the only one trying to open (seemingly) bolted doors. It was around this time when I began to think, ‘It would be so nice to have a space of my own where I could host some of the authors I’ve met and tell people about all the wonderful books they may not know about.’ However, at the time the idea seemed beyond my reach; like (seriously out of reach) wishful thinking.

Then, Covid-19 and the George Floyd protests hit and everything changed. It was a wake-up call; a reminder (once again) that life is fleeting and can be taken away at any given moment.

After a considerable amount of research and consideration, I decided not to waste another minute trying to talk myself out “building my own door”. It was time to move forward with my long-term love affair with books and open a bookstore.

Why Little Visioneers?

We all have little visions for ourselves, our lives, our community and the world at large. Everything begins with an idea, an inspiration, a vision. A little vision(eer) is the small beginning from which great things can come.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Considering the time it takes to prepare the physical space for a bookstore and COVID-19 restrictions, the anticipated opening of the physical location was delayed.

To continue moving forward, I established Little Visioneers as an online bookstore where books can be purchased directly from the website. Little Visioneers also has a storefront on where any title can be ordered from the full catalogue. is an online bookstore where you can order books direct to your home while supporting independent bookstores.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Little Visioneers?
Little Visioneers is a Black woman-owned bookstore located in Los Angeles, California.

The mission of Little Visioneers is two-fold:

– To provide immediate access to a wide variety of books authored by women, and

– To celebrate the rich and indelible contributions of women to the literary world.

Little Visioneers Bookstore provides a variety of books that represent a diverse, multi-cultural literary landscape. Inventory appeals to a wide range of ages and interests, even those individuals who complain they can never find anything good to read, and as a result, are reluctant readers. As the store founder, I have curated my most recommended books, as well as titles to provide diverse angles on life’s most common situations.

In addition to books and unique handmade gift items, Little Visioneers also hosts ‘Beyond Talking Points’, a one-on-one interview series. Author interviews highlight authentic insights and different perspectives on topics that go beyond traditional talking points.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me as a business owner and creative is to provide content, information and products that contribute to something beneficial in the world; something that is immediately useful and practical in helping people improve their lives.

I spend a lot of time carefully reviewing and curating books that are sold in my store. When customers browse the book lists and inventory, they will not only find books to educate or entertain but also books that encourage and inspire!
