Inspiring Conversations with Bricia Garcia of Artistic Vibez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bricia Garcia.

Hi Bricia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Beautician? who would’ve known right at least in my family. I’m the first beautician. Salon Owner /Hairdresser/ makeup artist.

Inspiring moment. My mom since I was a young girl, I was always mesmerized by my mom and the way she was always put together. Even now, her hair, make-up & nails done.

Don’t get me wrong, I had a different agenda before getting into the beauty industry.

I always imagined working in an office environment. Or with kids.

I took child development, I interned at daycares thinking I would open up a daycare facility. Well, I quickly saw how that wasn’t for me 🙈.

My mother was always my encourager.

She saw that I wasn’t happy and was stressing about finding a career especially being a young mother at the age of 18. I knew I had to get it together.

My mom saw something in me that I didn’t even see in myself. She saw Passion.

She would pay attention on how I loved coloring and cutting my own hair since I was young messing with makeup too. Ha 😁.

Especially her makeup.

I remember coming to her stressed out about me figuring out what I wanted to do to earn an income.

And she quickly said, “You should become a beautician go to cosmetology school”.

I remember repeating her, “I should be a Beautician? Really?

I always loved doing it for me. Never thought to do it for others.

Once I started, everything came so easy. Like it was second nature.

While in beauty school, I remember flipping thru the yellow pages. Back then, I don’t think Google was a thing. And I remember calling a bunch of salons asking if they needed an assistant or If they needed a receptionist.

Thinking to myself, I need to get my foot in the door.

I remember the first salon that took a chance on me. I would take the bus to work in the morning and then get a ride from a family member or friend to get to school in the evening.

All while having a Toddler.

As I got licensed, my main focus was to grow in the industry. Finding a salon home to grow and build my clientele was key to me before going off on my own.

After my ten years in a salon before going on my own full force.

The industry had a nice change, Salon Suites started opening up everywhere. They are so popular now.

I rented a suite at the Phenix Salon Suites for five years with plans to go big. I had seen a few locations to open a full-service salon. But everything I saw just didn’t feel right.

Then Rumors of Shutdown?

That there was going to be shutdowns for our industry.

Of course, I was scared to make a move.

I paused for the whole year on even thinking of jumping the gun.

Man, the pandemic though. It was definitely a rollercoaster, right?

Fast forward to the last shutdown. It was December of 2020 and I remember I was barely making ends meet.

Pushing through those times and coming back stronger than ever and some just couldn’t. I definitely give it to all of our family in the beauty industry. And all the mom and pops “Non-Essential” workers.

January of 2021, I found the perfect location and “Artistic Vibez” was born.

Not too big and not too small.

Just right!

Business is booming and better than ever.

I have space to run a full-service salon.

I specialize in Color / Extensions and I am also an educator for Hair extensions.

I work with an amazing company called City of Angels Hair Extensions.

I rent space out to other talented artist.

• Vanessa – Color Artist

• Gabby – Massage Therapist

• Casandra – Teeth Whitening Tech

And future artists who have a place here once they get licensed.

I mentor and train my amazing assistant Veronica. She is my right hand on the weekends when we’re the busiest.

She’s amazing, eager to learn and grow.

And I can’t forget my amazing Mom. She does my bookkeeping and helps me keep the salon stocked and clean.

I definitely love what I do.

Love my amazing clients. They are why I show up to work.

They trust me and I trust the Color Gods 😂 just kidding.

Continued education is definitely Key in the Industry. We always have to keep evolving with the times and trends. Never think you know “everything“. It’s always best to humble yourself and Grow if you want to a better anything but especially a better you.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
God definitely does everything in perfect timing, you see the 2020 pandemic happened right on the weekend of my birthday March 19th my birthday is March 20th. They started rolling out with the PPP loans for people with small businesses.

My PPP loan got approved right when I had just signed my lease for my new location. It helped so much.

I completed my Salon with all the plumbing and the aesthetically pleasing ideas and Decor… guess when?…

Right on the weekend of my Birthday! 🎉

Yup, a full year and God turned it around. 🙌

Since then, business has been amazing and smooth.
