Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Graffia.
Hi Brianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in a super tight-knit Italian family, who truly allowed me to understand how beautiful life is when you aim to make others’ lives better. Much to their dismay, I went away to college at Syracuse University, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Anthropology and then went on to receive my master’s in public health in Epidemiology from Emory University. After graduation & the start of the pandemic, I moved out to LA to work in the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, where I helped with covid response. Although this was incredibly fulfilling, in 2022 I made the decision to exit public health and instead shift to join my parents in founding Losano! From here, I have grown from handling influencer marketing to managing our marketing efforts as a whole.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Career changes are pretty tough, and I feel like I have already had a few of them at this point! Switching from public health to marketing required a major mindset shift that quite honestly caught me a little off guard. I walked into this position thinking that all data is data; however, and maybe obviously, marketing data is substantially more subjective. This, plus how the IOS and GA updates have changed how we are able to understand our customers and their behavior, has created quite the learning curve for me. Thankfully, I work with an amazing team that has provided me with so much support, education, and most importantly, room to grow as a professional.
We’ve been impressed with Losano, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The most exciting part! I work for an absolutely amazing, women-run company called Losano. We specialize in creating high-end, sustainable activewear right here in Los Angeles! We pride ourselves on using low-impact, BPA-free materials, including fabrics made from post-consumer waste, FSC-certified Lenzing modal, and GOTS-certified organic cotton, just to name a few! We create our designs with the intention of helping you simplify your entire day, making your favorite workout and lounge pieces multifunctional. This means your favorite workout set is built with amazing recovery and moisture-wicking technology, making it easy to run from your favorite class to a full day of meetings with the simple addition of a blazer. By designing pieces appropriate for many settings, we hope to encourage our customers to shop mindfully and wear constantly!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Certainly! I think the biggest lesson I learned was the importance of community. With the work-from-home mandate and basically a suspension on social activity, I think a lot of people, myself included, started to feel really isolated. The pandemic really gave us the opportunity to explore new ways to connect with our loved ones. Additionally, when people come together to work towards a common goal, something truly beautiful is achieved! I wish we saw a little bit more collaboration through this difficult process, but I will never forget the amount of kindness I saw to largely invisible immunocompromised communities.
