Inspiring Conversations with Andrew Weir of Stroyke Properties Group at Bayside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Weir.

Hi Andrew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been in sales my entire career. From my first job as an Account Executive at KCBS-TV right after graduating USC to Warner Bros., TV selling syndicated programming such as People’s Court, Rosie O’Donnell, EXTRA, and re-runs of Friends. After a year in LA working for Warner Bros., they offered me a chance to run the NYC office. I accepted, thinking it would only be a few years before making our way back to CA. It was 27 years. When the traditional media business started to morph to digital, I wanted a change. I never wanted to leave CA in the first place, so after 27 years on the East Coast, my oldest and dearest friends who had a successful, family-run, boutique real estate brokerage in Manhattan Beach, CA convinced me to join them in residential real estate. Best move I ever made! Although still “sales”, the transition to residential real estate made me understand a true “eat what you kill” sales job. 100% commission. With no formal training or mentorship, I managed to win the California Association of Realtors “Rising Star” award in only my second year in the business. It has now been six years of working as a real estate agent, and my success has surpassed my wildest dreams. I am proud to work with clients from tech to high finance, from entrepreneurs to celebrities and more.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The transition from corporate media sales entrepreneur as a real estate agent/advisor was anything but smooth. One must realize that Real Estate sales is not an “easy road”. There are a lot of people who say, “I am going to get my real estate license” because of the incorrect perception that it is “easy” money. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If you want a real estate career, you have to be prepared to work hard and work smart. You are never “off”. Successful agents work seven days a week and need to be well-versed in multiple topics. We are a trusted advisor to our clients. We are expected to be strong negotiators, analysts, marketers, counselors and experts in our field. That level of service does not come without continuing education in all aspects of the business. I have had struggles along the way. In a typical sales job, you have product/inventory that you sell to an existing client base and you are challenged with growing that existing business and bringing in new clients/business, Not so in real estate. You start with no product/inventory and no clients. It’s a struggle to build a business from scratch and that was the case for me. I didn’t see any sustainable income for a good year.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Stroyke Properties Group at Bayside?
At Stroyke Properties Group, we focus on the Luxury Market, concentrating on the LA Cities of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. The company was started by my Godparents, Viva and Bob Stroyke, back in the mid-80’s and has remained an iconic family-run boutique brokerage in the area. With only a handful of agents, we consistently generate sales of $250 million annually. We are a relationship-first mindset and I personally pride myself on my professionalism, intimate market knowledge, and personable nature. Those are my keys to success. Everyone around town is familiar with our “green tree” logo. You will find our signs hanging on $15-30 million dollar properties around town, from the famous STRAND to big estates in the “Hill Section” of Manhattan Beach.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Living on the East Coast for so many years, I tend to dress differently than a lot of my fellow beach real estate agents. Sweaters, slacks, sports coats and dress shoes. It is kind of my calling card. But behind it all, I am an avid outdoorsman. Fly Fishing is my passion.
