Inspiring Conversations with Tammy Pettigrew of The Cannabis Cutie (TLP Ventures)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Pettigrew.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in cannabis began in undergrad at Oklahoma State University after having a horrible academic semester and receiving a 0.8 GPA (yes it’s possible). A friend of mine who lived on the same dorm floor that I resided in was known as the resident pothead and made the honor roll that same semester. I figured I had nothing to lose and finally tried cannabis.

What I learned was the D.A.R.E. program and the government lied to me about this plant, and I haven’t been quiet about it since. Fast forward to graduate school at the University of Miami, and I knew that I would be entering the cannabis industry upon graduation, but I hadn’t quite figured out how. During my time at Miami, the majority of the projects I completed were cannabis-based, and I did tons of education on the plant to my peers and professors.

When I graduated, I still wasn’t sure how I was going to enter the cannabis space, MBA in hand, but I figured learning more about the science and industry was a great starting point. Learning all of this new information gave me the idea to start my education company, The Cannabis Cutie. It all started with one-minute videos and information on Instagram explaining some aspect of cannabis and now it’s expanding its products and services to get proper education to consumers who are curious about the plant and are ready to lose the stigma!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the obstacles I faced when starting my journey was learning that banks will not bank with any ancillary companies that have the word “cannabis” in its’ name. Even though my business does not touch the plant, every bank I tried rejected me. That was a hard lesson to learn, and I had to change my LLC name.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Cannabis Cutie (TLP Ventures). For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Cannabis Cutie specializes in educating consumers who are curious about the cannabis plant or want to enter the cannabis industry but are looking for more information. We offer a Cannabis 101 Course that teaches cannabis science, history, law, taxonomy, and more! The purpose of this course is to give advocates, entrepreneurs, and consumers a well-rounded view of cannabis. One of my favorite offerings of The Cannabis Cutie is the Higher Learning Book Club! It’s an online collective of people who want to grow their knowledge and extend their impact in the cannabis industry. I like to say we’ve cultivating advocates 🙂 Tammy, lead educator of The Cannabis Cutie, also hosts a live show weekly on @Herb (Tuesdays on Facebook & Thursdays on Instagram). 2021, the product line will be expanded with additional courses, e-book, apparel, scholarship program, and more!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’d love to give credit to my social director, Kelly. She is amazing! She sees my vision and executes it so well and it feels great to know that as a mom and entrepreneur, I have her support and her there to bounce ideas off of and learn from. I have to thank Sara Jane too who has helped me get a handle on everything web and digital. I’m grateful to be surrounded by, what I think, are experts in their respective fields that are helping me scale my business and support my vision! I also have to thank Herb and CEO Matt Gray for allowing me to educate even more people out in the world through their platform. My why is to help others create change by empowering them through education, so it feels so good to have their support! There are so many other people in the industry who inspire me and support me and it really fuels me! Fellow advocates, my mentor Pat, The KandyPens House in LA, Kannabis Works in Orange County, all of my family and friends deserve recognition for all they’ve done to help me!
