Inspiring Conversations with Marko Fazio of Elevate Music Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marko Fazio.

Hi Marko, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started music by learning classical guitar at seven years and picked up the electric guitar and started playing in a rock band with friends at 15. As I matured, I realized I wanted to deepen my knowledge and skill on my instrument and started studying Jazz when I turned 20 years old. Eventually, I entered the Jazz program of the conservatory of Toulouse. In 2011 I received a scholarship to study guitar performance at the Los Angeles College Of Music and was happy to accept this journey, as I always wanted to come to the US. While attending the Los Angeles College Of Music school, I had the opportunity of working with vocalists who were part of the songwriting program, and so I discovered the world of music production and recording. I then eventually started to work as a producer myself and help artists on finding and developing their unique sounds. That was the beginning of what I am doing today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been always a smooth road 🙂 Los Angeles is a vast and competitive city with many people sharing big dreams, trying to accomplish the same thing as you and who might even be better at it. But I always felt like that is the magic of it all, being in a place with highly creative and like-minded people and artistic momentum. It can be very challenging to find your network and community, but with patience and hard work it is definitely possible and very rewarding to find your place. I like to add that being a foreigner in the US and dealing with immigration to maintain legal status makes things extra challenging!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Elevate Music Productions?
In 2019, I created Elevate Music Productions, a music production company which focuses on producing music and helping artists to develop their sound and unlock their full musical potential. I believe that one of the most important components of a successful music production project starts with a genuine and trusting relationship between the artist and the producer whose role is to capture, synthesize and refine the artist’s vision into a recording. I quickly came to realize that there are many more aspects to what music production project entails. Yes, the creative music-making is what matters most, but things like marketing, promotion and most importantly funding and financing can often pose a substantial challenge for the artist and consequently get in the way. These challenges go beyond my role and responsibilities as music producer, yet their importance and cruciality cannot be ignored. After reflecting on this matter, I decided to partner with a foundation that will not only help artists to fund their projects but also to promote their music to a wider audience.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the weather and the cultural diversity of LA. There are so many different people from various backgrounds and with inspiring stories. You will never get bored, and there is always something interesting to do or someone interesting to meet. My first least favorite part of LA is for sure the cost of living. Compared to Europe, it is expensive, even basic things like fruits and vegetables. My second least favorite thing would be the crazy traffic. This is a greatly spread out city, and in addition to the long-distance from A to B on not the best road infrastructure, and everybody commuting most of the time, it’s not uncommon to spend an entire day in the car… Time just slips away.
