Inspiring Conversations with Jalil of Fukkatsu NYC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalil.

Hi Jalil, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been interested in fashion and creating my own designs. I am the creator of Fukkatsu NYC. I’ve worked in the retail and fashion industry for 10+ years and was ready to bring my designs to life. Fukkatsu NYC was born in 2016 from a desire of resurrecting the culture of my hometown, New York City. Fukkatsu translates to resurrected in Japanese. Since starting the brand, we’ve released numerous collections and hosted our first standalone pop-up shop in the spring of 2019.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Especially as a clothing company in the middle of an unexpected pandemic, our sales have been affected but we are optimistic things will continue to pick back up and we will hit one of our goals of participating in a tradeshow this year. It’s all about adjusting to the times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Fukkatsu NYC?
Fukkatsu NYC is a black-owned streetwear brand inspired by the iconic art, music, and fashion trends of New York City in the 1980s and 1990s. We aim to resurrect the culture of the city at its prime while uplifting our community educationally, socially and financially. Our brand features quality clothing with purposeful graphics along with custom 1 of 1 upcycled vintage jackets. What sets us apart from others is our consistent focus on sustainability. Our clothes are made from locally sourced recycled cotton in Los Angeles and our shipping packages are made from compost in Utah. We’ve achieved many accomplishments since our start and our most proud moments include the consistent growth we’ve experienced throughout the years along with the continued support from our community.

How do you think about happiness?
As an entrepreneur, I find happiness in many things including creating products that people love, especially items that help people express who they truly are.
