Today we’d like to introduce you to Dora Rodriguez.
Dora, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m originally from Canada and my background is from Spain. I started modeling after I passed the tedious casting to compete in Miss Universe Canada. After that, I got signed, in Toronto, to a modeling and a talent agency. Since then, I have traveled around the world as a model and a brand ambassador. I have been on many covers of Magazines, most recently the world-renown Harper’s Bazaar (Vietnam). I hold a Bachelor of Journalism Degree and have done TV reporting work, as well as acting and voice-acting for commercials (such as Audi) and radio shows (such as Virgin Radio). I recently finished filming a TV show in London but due to an NDA that I signed, I can’t disclose the name of the show or the platform it will be on until it’s released this summer. My “day job” per se, is doing PR for a firm I launched in 2020 amid the pandemic called KW Publicists. It’s based in London but we do PR for clients worldwide. Our clients range from entertainers to business owners. I was living in LA before the pandemic taking acting classes at the world-renown acting studio “Speiser Sturges,” then left right before the pandemic hit for the holidays and wasn’t able to return due to border closings for now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been to over 35 countries so it’s had its ups and downs. People think it must be so exciting to travel the world, and it is amazing to visit different places and meet people of walks of life, but the downside is you give up a personal life because not many partners would be understanding of a life on the road. The struggles have been being away from friends and family often and not having a long-term relationship in a long time. The rewards, though, have been being very successful professionally and immersing myself in different cultures. Also, building a large network of people in the entertainment industry internationally enabled me to launch my own PR firm, which I’m sure will keep me busy for years to come, and I can do it remotely, as long as I have a good internet connection. In terms of modeling, it’s always been a constant battle to stay slim when my body type is naturally wide-hipped and big boned. But this industry has also forced me to stay motivated and be healthy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about KW Publicists?
I own a PR Firm, KW Publicists, that specializes in building public figures’ brand in order for them to become as successful as they can be. We liaison with top magazines for models, actors, musicians, and business owners, as well as write and publish articles for our clients to help them promote their businesses and their new projects. We also distribute press-releases for our clients and have a global reach, where many other PR firms might focus on a more local or national approach, we have a global vision, as I’ve traveled so much I know the world is actually a small place and I can help our clients reach the audience they deserve to reach.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was when my father pulled my siblings and out of school in Canada for a whole semester to travel throughout all of the US and all of Central America. He home-schooled us and we lived like locals in Costa Rica for three months. By the time I was eight years old, I had already been to 11 different countries.
