Inspiring Conversations with Anne Veran of Rodan + Fields

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Veran.

Anne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a Registered Nurse by trade and I’ve been a nurse for 20 years. I’m a mom of two, and my husband is also a nurse. The pay is great but we both work 12 long hours and that often leaves us feeling burnt out. Because of our schedule, somebody always has to stay home with the kids and that leaves us with only a few hours at night to spend time with each other. Oftentimes, when I leave for work, the kids would still be sleeping and when I get home, it’s time for bed. I feel guilty for giving my family just crumbs of my day and I resent that I can’t spend time with my family as often as I want when I want. I feel that I didn’t become a nurse just to be away from my husband and family. This is not the American Dream I had in mind.

On top of all this, when I had my daughter, it wreaked havoc on my skin, causing hormonal acne and stubborn dark spots. It totally messed up my self-confidence and the way I interacted with my patients and other people. That’s when I got introduced to Rodan + Fields Skincare. My skincare journey has been amazing. It totally cleared my skin and gained my confidence back. But what’s even more amazing is the business side of Rodan + Fields. I joined the company as a skincare consultant three years ago and I never looked back. I liked their business model because it’s online which worked great even in the pandemic and fits right in my schedule. Now I’m able to work part-time hours and still make a full-time income and more. It’s given me all kinds of freedom and now I never miss a moment when it comes to my family. It is a rewarding experience for me because I’m able to serve my community by helping them achieve the best skin of their lives and the confidence that comes with it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s anything but smooth. My friends laughed at me and ridiculed me for being “that girl.” They said I stepped down a notch from being a nurse to just a salesperson. Even I doubted myself at first. I had no experience in sales. I didn’t want to be salesy and spammy to my friends and relatives for selling skincare. It was a test of resilience after getting rejected over and over but I worked on my mindset and turned to my family and R+F community for support.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rodan + Fields is a skincare company owned by two Stanford University trained dermatologists, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields who are still practicing today. They are the makers of Proactiv acne brand and saw huge success from it via TV infomercial. Now, they want to help entrepreneurs become successful via the direct selling business model. They train consultants to become great brand ambassadors. It is our mission to help people with the most common skin concerns like acne, fine lines, sensitive skin, and dark spots without having to go to the dermatologist. We provide clinical grade skincare regimens without prescription. Because the results are so life-changing, R+F became the No. 1 Skincare Brand in North America! I provide free individualized skin consultation. All our products are backed by a 60- day money back guarantee. As a Filipino female entrepreneur, I am here to help my fellow Filipinos to break the barriers in a Caucasian-dominated industry. Now Rodan + Fields is open in Australia, Canada and most recently, Japan.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Fortunately Rodan + Fields has an easy three-step system that helps consultants with social media marketing. Working with a business coach has worked well for me also. In my opinion, do whatever it takes to succeed in your space. It could be finding a mentor or hiring a business coach or joining a community with the same goal.
