Hidden Gems: Meet Tara Maietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Maietta.

Hi Tara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in New York, I always had the ambition to want to get into fashion out of college. It wasn’t until I landed my first job working for bridal designer that I would immediately fall in love with weddings. My first job out of college also just happened to be a start-up in downtown Soho, NYC. The opportunity allowed me to learn all facets of how to run a bridal business from early on. I had tremendous amount of responsibility at such a young age. This included running their wholesale and retail business while handling all PR requests and events. I had the great privilege of working with some of the most incredible photographers to include legendary Peter Beard. From there, I took on the most important position of my life at Vera Wang where I spent almost a decade spearheading their international wholesale business and select freestanding stores across the globe. My greatest accomplishment was opening the Vera Wang flagship on Melrose.

After opening the space, I decided to stay in Los Angeles to grow the business and help facilitate all the red carpet dressing and celebrity weddings to include Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Mila Kunis, Debra Messing, Hilary Duff, Chrissy Teigen. I was then approached by Oscar de la Renta who was looking to grow their bridal wholesale business. One of the most prestigious houses to date, I knew this would be great opportunity and so I headed back to NY to pursue the most challenging role to date. At Oscar, I was the Director of Global Sales. I oversaw the wholesale business in addition to working closely with the merchandising team and celebrity dressing. I had the great privilege to help style some incredible woman to include Amal Clooney, Kate Bosworth, Charlize Theron, etc. In addition to this, I had the greatest experience traveling the world and learning a great deal about weddings in the most fascinating places to include Asia and the Middle East. I travel a great day (almost 15 years) styling brides across the world. The experience of traveling the world is what has made me who I am today.

In 2018, my husband’s career led us back to the West Coast. From there, I decided to take a break from the weddings world. The long hours and travel had taken a toll on me. I spend the next two years taking care of me.

Fast forward to December 2019, I was feeling lost. Weddings was such an instrumental part of my life. The passion I had was unparalleled to anything else. I missed it greatly. My dear colleague and well-established planner Yifat Oren reached out to me and asked me if I missed weddings and that she had a client that needed help. It was Yifat who without knowing pushed me to start my own business. I had no choice in the matter. It was happening whether I liked it or not. When I was just about to leave my full-time job, the world shut down and covid happened. I took the downtime to put a business plan together and start putting out in the universe that I wanted to get back to weddings. Sure enough, my canceled wedding with my first and incredible client happened and that wedding was covered in Vogue. These two women I will NEVER forget or as long as I live. They believed in me and made it happen. Fast forward to today and I now have a successful wedding styling and day of service. I work with clients across the globe but primarily in the United States. I can help clients both in person shopping and virtually. In addition to styling the bride, I can also help with everyone else involved in the wedding to include the groom!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Both wedding have been during covid so enough said. My first weddings looks (7) for the different events over the course of the year had to been worn all in one weekend. My next client and I had to change our vision four times. The factories couldn’t get the looks in time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Wedding Wardrobe Styling and Day of Service
I guide my clients on all their wedding wardrobe outfits through in-person shopping at specialty stores OR virtually. I am super creative and love getting lost in a great coffee table book or browse through all my favorites photographers. Photography is another passion of mine. One of my favorites is Paolo Roversi The Vera Wang on Weddings spread he shot to this day is one of my all the favorites. That book is a MUST.

I feel like my honesty and charisma is what sets me apart. I also think I become more than just a personal shopper for my clients. I become their therapist essentially. I grew up that THINGS did not matter. You are about to embark on ONE of the many monumental journeys in your life. I want you to take it all in and enjoy every minute. It goes by so fast. You will be mad at yourself for ever if you don’t. Don’t stress the small stuff. There is an answer for EVERYTHING. That is my motto.

I am in the business of making people feel good about themselves. That is my favorite part of this journey. The most gratifying being in the world. I am going on 17 years now in the industry and I love this industry just as much as I did the first day I laid eyes on it.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Great childhood memories with my brothers growing up in Westchester County, NY. I was very privileged to grow up in a small town. We only had 76 kids in our graduating class. It was a small close-knit community and look forward to visiting each and every time
