Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephannie Vicuna.
Hi Stephannie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I knew there was something more, I didn’t know what, but I knew I wanted and was being called to different. My young adult life never felt fully comfortable, my voice was stifled and I was in a position in life that just didn’t feel right. I was anxious all the time and my nervous system was unregulated due to being in an unhealthy relationship. I lived in a constant state of not feeling physically and emotionally well. I had 2 babies and knew I wanted to raise them in a happy healthy home, I began to dabble in a more natural existence for us- clean household items, clean foods, homemade baby food, homeopathic medicine- but my knowledge stopped there. Then I started yoga and started to feel physically good, I learned yoga was an actual practice and so much more than cute outfits and poses. My mind started to expand, understanding that in order to feel good and live happily, change needed to come from within- I needed to go deeper than simply changing my household items.
As an Ayurvedic Practitioners, we believe Ayurveda finds you. Ayurveda, an ancient Indian healing system & the sister science to yoga – Ayurveda found me- it found me at a time when I needed to evolve, I needed my something more. As my relationship status changed, I had the beautiful gift to come back to self. I decided to make a greater change and finally take control of my life, I applied to the school to become an Ayurvedic Practitioner. I did so in a way that honored my new journey, I made this decision privately, as a newly single mother, it was important for me to begin to trust myself and use my voice. Once I got accepted, I shared the news with my family & friends, their support was the backbone to my success.
In my two-year program at Southern California University of Health Sciences, my beliefs expanded, my gift was brought to light and I learned a deeper beautiful way of life. I was challenged, I grew and my vision became clear. I understood there was a different way to look at our health and wellness, I dreamed of a space where the community could be developed, humanity was first priority, root causes were uncovered and we were no longer symptomatically covering up, a place where people gathered and are empowered to take charge of their own wellness- where they can come for a yoga, sound healing or creative arts class one day and come back the next day for a health in-take and walk away with natural herbs and remedies to heal themselves.
Wholistic Wellness was born. I created a line of CBD Ayurvedic Herbal Tea and started seeing clients, I kept getting asked for treatments and in-takes and although at that point I didn’t have a brick and mortar, I felt the Universe was placing people in my path and who was I to deny when the collective was calling. I allowed for an organic growth and manifested a location with a beautiful outside space, I took my time and knew when the right place at the right time was ready, it would be time.
Wholistic Wellness Center opened its doors in Fullerton, CA on August 1st. I feel so blessed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A smooth road provides no growth. I welcomed the challenge of evolving. I believe the acceptance to change and hardships, understanding that at the end of this, “all will be well” brought a lot of peace to challenges.
I was a single mother carrying a full-time job who went back to school to enter the natural health world during the covid pandemic. That was a lot of unknown and juggling. Now opening a business, still carrying a full-time job, forever being Mama to my amazing little dudes requires the peace and confidence that Wholistic Wellness is here for a reason.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have a heavy collection of Ayurevda books that feel like friends, every time I open one to read, it just feels like my world continues to expand. Recent favorites are:
Kosmic Kitchen by Sarah Benjamin and summer singletary – these ladies are ayurvedic practitioners and herbalists and just seem so rad, I would love to take a course one day ( bc we all stay forever learning!) they inspire me!
Tritya-Prakriti- People of the third sex by Amara Das Wilhelm- In a constant effort for an inclusive community I want to be able to be deeply knowledgeable for all of my clients. This book explores and understands transgender identity and the gay community through hindu/vedic perspective. So far, it’s a beautiful well written, thoughtful read.
