Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone the Mastermind.
Hi Simone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My entrepreneurial journey began when I saw how undervalued I was in corporate America. I worked for a telecommunications company that had stores nationwide. I assisted them in establishing their stores in a new area, so I had the opportunity to build teams from the ground up. We skyrocketed. My staff and all the locations that I was responsible for were doing better than most of the stores that were already established. Company goals required us to hit 70%. My stores were doing 110-140% each month and were in the top ten consecutively. I gained two promotions in 60 days which was great because I was working towards a regional position that would allow me to have more pay and a better schedule. At the time, I was doing 10+ hour days and I was informed that this regional position would give me a $30K salary raise.
When the time came to fill the position, the company decided to pick this guy that was outside of the organization. I was heartbroken, but most of all I was insulted by the fifty cent raise they offered me vs. the $30K raise I was being groomed for. At that moment, I knew this corporate life wasn’t for me. It was disappointing that the company did not want to have a young, black woman in their upper management. Although I produced better numbers than any other region, it was quite obvious that I was no longer “needed”.
So, in April of 2014, I resigned and established my consulting firm, Akamai (aa·kuh·mai) Enterprise, LLC., where I assist entrepreneurs nationwide with business scaling strategies that focus on minimizing their workload while maximizing their revenue. In the last seven years, I have assisted several entrepreneurs with tripling (and even quadrupling) their revenue, some of which are now six-figure earners.
Although as a young girl I dreamed of being that young professional that climbed the corporate ladder, I saw that wasn’t in the stars for me. I now enjoy being of service to other business owners that desire change.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is rewarding but never easy. If it were so, everyone would be doing it!
I had no plans of becoming my own boss. I literally resigned from a position and lived off those last few checks for as long as I could. Hear me when I say that is never a good idea. I was 23 years of age and thought that I had it figured out–but I did not.
I dealt with auto repossessions. Evictions. My lights being cut off. Having to decide if I am going to put gas in the car or purchase pampers for my little one. After a few months, things were going so badly that I began to question the decision that I made. I even attempted to get another job, but nothing was falling through for me. I was devastated and afraid because I also really didn’t have anyone in my corner on this whole entrepreneurship thing. I came from a family where you either went to college and worked after or you went straight into the workforce. Although I went to college (and studied Chemistry, Biotechnology and Cybersecurity) I had no type of support on this “be your own boss” thing.
I struggled alone for years. But at the end of 2018, I had finally hit rock bottom. Once you’ve hit rock bottom, the only way from there is up. I had to change some things within me, starting with my mindset and my pride. I let my business office go. I became teachable again and hired a business coach because even good business coaches have even better business coaches. I completely transformed the way that I do business and kicked off my 2019 with those changes. Things finally began to turn around for me. By 2020, literally two months after the onset of Covid in the US, I hit my first five-figure month. I have been scaling ever since and now I am passionate about showing others how to do the same, whether they are full-time with their business or aspiring to get there.
We’ve been impressed with Akamai Enterprise, LLC., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the CEO of a consulting firm, Simone the Mastermind specializes in strategic intelligence and planning, business transformation, and collaborative culture. Her executive track record has produced exceptional bottom-line results in various business types, from micro businesses to multi-million dollar franchise corporations.
I am known for showing other bosses how to make money that regains their entrepreneurial freedom while being their true and authentic selves. What sets me apart is my bubbly, comical, magnetic personality and my love for martinis. I go against the stigma of professionalism, where you have to look a certain way or act a certain way to be successful.
What I am most proud of brand-wise would have to be the moment that I decided that it was okay to just be me. I am good at what I do, but for years I was still trying to run my business how I was in corporate. That wasn’t me. I also was quite miserable. The moment I made the decision to be unapologetic and authentically me is when I began to soar in my brand and that is by far one of my most greatest accomplishments.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I, Simone the Mastermind, am a business strategist, coach, author, and speaker. I assist service-based entrepreneurs with business scaling strategies that focus on price point, signature offers and automation. These three are the top key components to business scaling. Working around the clock is not. I help entrepreneurs unlearn that and re-learn the true components.
To work with me, the best place to start is with a consultation. This allows me to meet entrepreneurs where they are in their phase of business so that I can see how I can be of service. I offer several different services and self-guided help to be able to assist as many people as possible, no matter their budget or level of discipline. My most successful clients are those that are long-term, which have worked with me at least six to twelve months.
For those interested in booking me for speaking engagements or training, my hot topics include “Stop Trading Time for Money” (price point strategy), Business Credit and “Eliminate the 24/7 Grind” (signature offers and automation).
I surely love to travel with what I do, so I am always open to new opportunities to work with others.
For those that want to support, send an entrepreneur my way who is ready to stop working their business as their best employee and start serving as a CEO.
