Hidden Gems: Meet Sara Caitlin of Living the Light

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Caitlin.

Hi Sara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I consider myself to be a servant leader who deeply cares about the transformation and growth of myself and others. My journey began in the San Fernando Valley where I was born into a loving, compassionate, enlightened, and loving Jewish family. I spent the majority of my early childhood life growing up in a dance studio where I learned commitment, professionalism, and grit. At the age of 14, one of my best friends passed away from a drug overdose. Admittedly, before her passing, I was exploring my own sense of self and was seeking my personal identity through trial and error – getting into trouble, hanging with the wrong crowd… you get the point. When my friend passed away in October 2007, I immediately became aware that I wanted more from my life – I knew there was something greater for me; however, I did not know exactly what it was. I enrolled myself in a series of personal growth and development workshops… my life has never been the same since. It was in these seminars that I better understood who I am and what my purpose is.

Since then, over the last twelve years, I have been involved in continuing the sustainability and growth of this work; whether it is facilitating youth leadership programs or engaging in one-on-one coaching. I have seen, first-hand, the value of self-exploration. I have experienced the impact of becoming more aware of what is working, what is not working, and creating more of what I want in my life. In 2018, I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies at the University of San Diego. In addition, I decided to become certified as a leadership coach so that I can do meaningful transformational work with individuals and groups. My intention for coaching is to serve my community, both individually and collectively, by showing love, empathy, and caring; to ignite the light within others. What does that mean? It is my belief that we all have a fire within us; however, some of us have not yet thrown a match inside to light it up. Some of us have the light, yet we dim it or hide it from fully shining.

Aside from coaching and facilitating, I am passionate about travel. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to travel to sixteen different countries, where I learn more about myself everywhere I go. Through travel, I am able to experience other cultures, trust my intuition, and adopt diverse ways of being. Aside from travel, I also LOVE nature – especially the beach. I would spend every night watching the sunset if I could. Some of my hobbies include art, dance, learning new skills, and doing just about anything in nature.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s interesting to hear this question, because of course not – there are always bumps in the road. I think everyone encounters their own degrees of difficulty throughout their lives, and yet, I do not tend to see them as struggles. I see them as roadblocks. Just as if you are driving on a road and something shows up blocking your path. You figure out a way to get around it… whether that is left or right, up or down, or simply going through it. I believe that as people, we are never given anything we cannot handle. We are strong and we are resilient. EVERYTHING, no matter how difficult, is a powerful opportunity to learn and grow. On my personal journey, there have been challenges that I have needed to overcome, walls that I have had to break down, and feelings of loss and sadness. However, those struggles have given me an opportunity to evolve as an individual and empathize even more with others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Living the Light?
I started Living the Light Coaching with the intention of serving people through their personal growth and development journeys. Living the Light is an organization that offers individual and group coaching services, as well as customized leadership development workshops. Our mission is to facilitate meaningful growth for diverse individuals and groups, built on a foundation of deep connection, loving, empathy, and unconditionality. With my help, clients better understand who they are: their strengths, values, purpose, and opportunities for growth. It is my belief that everyone has the light inside of them. It is a fire that resides internally; this fire is a mixture of passion, purpose, drive, love, service, authenticity, and so much more. My intention as a coach is to support clients in living a life they love; to turn their dreams, their passion, their purpose, their awareness, their transformation into a lived reality. It is my belief that coaching is a holistic process that can be truly transformational for clients. My method of coaching is facilitative. My role is listening to better understand, asking powerful questions, reflecting back on what I am hearing, bring in new insights and opportunities for awareness, and supporting clients in identifying new actions and practices that can help them move towards their intentions.

Aside from leadership coaching, I also design and facilitate leadership development workshops, seminars, and programs for diverse groups of people on various topics, such as team building, conflict resolution, mission/vision, goal-setting, empathy, trust, and communication nationally and internationally through face-to-face and virtual (Zoom). In partnering with various organizations, I have developed customized program curricula based on the individual needs of each client. I love what I do with my whole heart. There’s no better feeling than to see my clients starting to love themselves more, build confidence, and take action towards living the life they love. I am proud of the work I do only because I get to work hand-in-hand with people on their transformational journeys.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The number of coaches entering the industry grows exponentially every year. I think this is a blessing, truly, because, in my opinion, everyone needs a coach! No matter how big or small, we all have goals and we need support to reach them. Having someone to genuinely listen, give feedback, and hold people accountable is invaluable. I see the coaching industry continuing to grow profoundly over the next 5-10 years because it’s a very inclusive industry that does not technically require a ton of credentialing (although it’s valuable to hold credentials… I HIGHLY recommend). Given where we are in the world, everyone needs personal growth and development. The challenge I hold myself accountable for is to continue learning new tools and techniques to bring to my clients consistently and to continue growing my offerings.
