Hidden Gems: Meet Rochelle Fergerson of Fergerson Finance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rochelle Fergerson.

Hi Rochelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a small business owner honestly happened organically. I went to California State University, Long Beach and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. A few months after graduating, I started my career as a Tax Auditor with the Orange County Assessor Department. While working for the OC Assessor over four years, I gained so many valuable experiences and even got to travel to Washington D.C., Dallas, TX and New York City to conduct my audit meetings. Over the past few years, I would assist my family and friends with their taxes and in 2020, I decided to really get serious with my business and branch out to gain new clients. I have a plethora of experience in the accounting and finance world as I have worked in banking, investments, payroll, budget, and tax audit to name a few. I am passionate about economic justice and bringing financial literacy to those around me!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since establishing my business, I have had a few challenges and that’s mainly due to in experience and starting basically from scratch. There are a few more certifications that I am working towards but it has been a struggle for me to pass my exams. This doesn’t deter me from advancing my business because I know I have the dedication, intelligence, and work ethic to one day complete those additional certifications. Balancing working a full-time job while establishing my business has not been easy, but my family and friends have helped me to keep focused towards my goals.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Fergerson Finance is a service-based business with an emphasis in accounting and tax preparation. I also offer business start-up consultations and bookkeeping services. I am an IRS Registered Tax Professional and also certified by the California Tax Education Council. I feel like one thing that sets me apart from similar businesses is that I am extremely meticulous with my work and offer tailored services for each of my clients. I also am different than most accounting firms because I have experience with working in government and having that extensive inside knowledge. My main goal with my business is to bring financial literacy and a better understanding to my clients’ specific tax situations. What I am most proud of with my business is writing an eBook entitled “Electrify Your Future: An Ultimate Guide to Buying a Low Emission Vehicle” In this eBook, I offer tips on how to: apply for a clean vehicle grant/rebates, research electric cars on the market, and redeem over $10,000 in grants and rebates! California is leading the way to create a more sustainable environment by reducing our gas consumption and emissions. My eBook is a great tool for those looking to make that switch to electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a pretty shy and quiet kid. I always excelled at math which is what led me to majoring in Accountancy. Numbers and organization was always something that interested me even at a young age. One thing that did help with my shyness was taking dance lessons while growing up which really helped to boost my confidence.
