Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Cook.
Rob, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised mainly in the housing projects of Birmingham, Alabama; I wanted to create a brighter future than what awaited many young Black men who grew up there. At 19, I joined the United States Air Force and became a decorated combat veteran. After 21-years of active duty service, I retired and moved to the Los Angeles area to transition into civilian life. Inspired by a passion for health, I became a certified life coach through Supercoach Academy, helping clients discover an ideal balance in their spiritual, mental, and physical well-being.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t know if I’d describe the road as smooth, but I would say the challenges for me were necessary. The darkest days of my life were the best thing to ever happen to me. Seriously. The impact of my fall made it inevitable for me to see that something needed to change and change fast. For years I explored an endless cycle for a solution to feeling broken. I’d buy and read any self-help book that would tell me the answer. Until one day, a dear friend and mentor shared the Inside/Out understanding and how our minds worked: it was a game-changer and the missing link to my happiness, my second chance.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I founded the brand unFIT in 2018. unFIT is a mindset to challenge the norms and thrive! The business is all about bringing out the very best in others so they can live a purpose-driven life. The strategy is to start fresh & authentic dialogue that enhances the human experience in group programs, one-on-one coaching, podcasts, public speaking, seminars, workshops, etc. Whether start-ups, non-profit organizations, or Fortune 500 companies, I safely challenge my clients so they can see their best position possible for success. What makes me different is that before I sit down with any client, I know that the resilience needed to thrive in life is already in them. I’m not teaching anything new; I’m just reminding them of how to tap into that innate ability again, so they turn low points into victories.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Let’s just say I got into quite a bit of trouble as a youth; my family’s love and support were everything. I can remember the pep talks and hugs that I would receive from my grandmothers, moms, and aunts. They prayed many days and nights that all my trouble would be used for something good one day. Being the benefactor of that support and love, I can’t help but express it to others in hopes it changes their lives and becomes one of their fondest memories to share.
