Hidden Gems: Meet Nixie Marie of CLARYTI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nixie Marie.

Nixie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I can remember, I have always loved spending my days out in nature. As a young girl, I was the tom-boy often playing in the dirt and spending all my days playing outside. I rarely watched TV, but when I did it was always The Little Mermaid. When my family and I moved to Orange County we lived 15min from the beach. The beach quickly became my playground as a teen. I learned how to surf during the summer months and immediately grew a strong connection to the ocean. It took me many trials and errors in my 20’s and moving to Los Angeles to find my passion for the ocean and the environment again. I was a Fashion Design major and had big dreams of moving to the big city to be the next big designer. Once I got into the fashion industry, I started feeling a little out of place. It is an incredibly challenging space for someone who loves the environment as it is one of the largest industries causing environmental disruption. Motivated to seek out new endeavors that were more aligned with my core ethics, I began exploring sustainable business ideas. I found a passion in homes and saw an opportunity for my inner activist to run free while also helping others.

In 2015, I launched Nixie Dust Cleaning a green cleaning company in Los Angeles, CA that quickly grew into a fairly decent-sized small business. We made our own all-natural products and helped support our clients create a sustainable sanctuary. I spent years developing and testing cleaning products inside the company and once we landed on an all-natural but incredibly effective formula, my team and I decided to launch CLARYTI a line of zero waste all-natural home cleaning products. When we created CLARYTI, we did it with the planet in mind. We carefully sourced ALL, and we mean ALL of our ingredients, labels, and packaging. We chose companies that align with our core values and bring us and the earth good vibes. In the launch of my new endeavor, we are blending my love for the ocean and homes into the companies core values so that we can create products people love and drive positive change in the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is the wildest journey one can take. It has tested me spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. To add to that, running a sustainable company in a society that isn’t always interested in your crunchy hippie products does not make it an easy journey. In a world that highlights fast growth, we as a team have made decisions that stay true to our values as a sustainable company. Finding vendors that are also aligned to our vision was one of the more challenges we faced as our goal has always been to create products with no single-use plastic.

As you know, we’re big fans of CLARYTI. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
CLARYTI is a line of zero waste all-natural cleaning products. Our mission is to eliminate the 3rd largest contributor of plastic pollution in the oceans which is household products. We create products people love while driving positive change in the world. Our founders are sailors and are currently on an expedition in the Sea of Cortez to help raise awareness on plastic pollution in the ocean. Let’s first break down our ingredients because that’s what matters most. We only use natural and organic compounds to create a powerful yet safe cleaner for you and your home. We only use organic essential oils to bring your home effervescent scents that might attract your neighbors (you’ve been warned). We prefer glass to plastic because well, we love the ocean and we want to keep sailing for the rest of our time here and also make sure our children, grandchildren, grandchildren’s children, grandchildren’s children’s children… you get the point.. have an ocean they can swim in too. We also like wood, bamboo, hemp, and metal… anything that can easily be recycled or reusable. We also ship our products in concentrates to reduce our shipping weight to help offset carbon emissions…. which is a HUGE issue here on planet earth. We have partnered up with 5 Gyres, a non-profit organization that is on a mission to clean up the plastic pollution in the oceans. 5% of all our sales goes towards their efforts. Join our mission in cleaning up the oceans by using clean products inside our homes!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Los Angeles is a place where dreams are made possible. I love that you can meet so many amazing and creative individuals from all over the world that came to live in Los Angeles to pursue a dream. I love that the ocean is close to home and my favorite thing to do on weekends is take a drive down to Malibu along the coastline. There is so much magic and beauty in Los Angeles it is certainly a wonderful place to call home.
