Hidden Gems: Meet Meghan Clem of Intertwined

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Clem.

Hi Meghan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In high school, I met Katie Webb Brundige, my now business partner and Co-Founder of RAD Camp, when volunteering for a local organization serving those with special needs. We kept in touch throughout college, became best friends (and business partners) and opened Intertwined, an Event Planning and Social Media Consulting firm, with the intention of giving back. In 2014, we founded RAD Camp, a nonprofit organization serving children and adults with developmental disabilities!

Our mission is RAD – Rising Above Disabilities! We offer awesome programs and camps for adults and children with developmental disabilities, much-deserved respite for their caregivers, and a life-changing volunteer experience for the local community. The vision was to create a place where people with disabilities could feel like absolute rock stars while trying new things, connecting and making friends, and expressing themselves while also feeling included and celebrated. Katie and I also wanted their extraordinary caregivers to receive a break while simultaneously providing local youth a new perspective on people and serving others.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
With the onset of COVID-19, our organization had to adapt like never before. Since caregivers depend on RAD for respite and a community for their loved ones with special needs, Katie and I knew RAD would be even more essential for families during a pandemic. In 2020, we quickly transitioned all of our in-person programs to an online summer camp experience called RAD Remote so our campers and volunteers could participate virtually.

By creating RAD Remote, we found a way to reach our campers and ensure they could enjoy camp activities from the comfort and safety of their home by means of virtual interaction and even some socially distanced surprise visits from volunteers throughout SoCal. RAD Remote proved to be a huge success so we were able to take it to new heights this past summer. RAD Remote 2021 served 124 campers from 52 cities throughout California and even four different states! We also had 149 RAD volunteers who served over 1,638 hours in just one week. How RAD is that?!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In 2009, Katie and I founded Intertwined Events, a full-service event planning company, and Become Intertwined  a Social Media consulting firm – both located in Southern California. We are proud to be a women-owned and women-operated business!

With our amazing team of creative and skilled planners, Intertwined Events produces hundreds of extraordinary weddings, corporate events, and nonprofit events annually. We’ve worked in the top venues throughout California, as well as at destination events across the U.S. and in Europe. We love creating event magic for our clients!

At Become Intertwined, our talented team utilizes their unique backgrounds to create engaging Social Media campaigns for a multitude of brands across a wide array of industries. We help our clients keep the social in Social Media!

Throughout the years, RAD Camp has always brought both our teams together as we all share a love for volunteering and giving back to our community.

What makes you happy?
RAD is our (and so many others) happy place! I believe that is why it has continued to grow and become such a successful organization for kids and adults with developmental disabilities. Our community gives and receives so much genuine happiness through their time together at RAD! RAD isn’t just a place or a program, it’s a mindset that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. Everyone who is a part of RAD knows how much joy and happiness our campers bring to us all and our goal is to take that happiness out into the world.

We LOVE the pure joy that exudes from all of our incredible campers and volunteers! Camp would not be what it is today without our passionate, dedicated Camp family. RAD truly centers us and keeps us grounded throughout the year. Pull up one of our videos on Vimeo and you’ll see why (https://vimeo.com/radcamp)! Camp is heaven on earth.
