Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Snedden of The Kind Effect

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Snedden.

Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A few years ago, I started traveling around the world, doing random acts of kindness for strangers, and making heart-warming videos about my encounters through my organization called the Kind Effect. When the pandemic hit, it changed so much about the way we interact with each other, so I needed a new, interesting way to continue to connect with others. One day, when I was having a down moment during the pandemic, I stumbled across funny t-rex videos on YouTube and they really lifted my mood because they’re hilarious. I noticed that there weren’t any videos of the T-rex doing random acts of kindness. So, I ordered the costume then started doing random acts of kindness dressed as “the Kindosaur.” I think people are more open to being approached by a life-sized T-rex over a random girl doing good deeds. I definitely wear a mask under the costume and do my best to keep a distance, though.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it has been incredibly fun. Even though I am trying my best to share positive moments with others and lift the vibe, I am also human and have struggled myself through the era of Covid-19. The pandemic has gone on for so much longer than any of us could have anticipated. By now, we’ve all had our moments. Every time I feel down, though, I try to recenter my focus on helping others. I am here to make a difference in all ways, big and small, so my mission keeps me motivated. Also, as far as struggles go, everything I do through the Kind Effect and the Kindosaur has been completely self-funded. While I may not be rich, I’ve found ways to still move forward with my mission to share kindness with others and make impactful content. I also remind myself that people don’t expect perfection, they just want a reason to smile and some good news, even if it’s just filmed on my phone.

We’ve been impressed with The Kind Effect, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My overarching kindness brand is called the Kind Effect, and the Kindosaur is just one of my initiatives, which started because of Covid. Overall, my goal is to create uplifting and emotional video content about the joy of kind deeds. I’m probably known best for being the conduit for emotional experiences online, which I am proud of because I really want to create moments that help people feel like the little things that they do matter. We go about our lives craving a sense of purpose and meaning, or at least that has been something I’ve struggled with for a long time. Then when I realized that the sum of all our actions adds up to a whole lot of good, I knew I had to share this secret with others and inspire them to get out there and start doing good. The best place to watch Kind Effect videos is my Youtube and Instagram channels. I am also always thrilled to receive messages from people who’ve felt inspired then gone out and done acts of kindness for others themselves.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to keep the Kindosaur going, so if you feel compelled to donate, visit http://www.DinoDonations.com. I also sell kindness merchandise on my Etsy shop that I designed, so all of the proceeds from sales of those products help keep the Kind Effect alive as well.
