Hidden Gems: Meet Lisa Dixon of LMDixonPhotos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Dixon.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started photography when I was very young but have since turned it into a career. I modeled for 14 years and now use those years of experience to coach up and coming models/actors in posing while building their portfolios. I also photograph bands, animals and motorsports.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road is ever smooth, but that’s how we build new strengths and skills. My biggest struggle has been proving my worth in the industry. There’s so many people who don’t want to pay for work anymore. That’s definitely the biggest struggle.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I modeled professionally for 14 years in the USA, France, Ireland and UK at only 5’6 and managed myself for most of my career. I specialize in coaching models and actors during photoshoots to help them receive the exact images they need to move forward with their careers. I teach them things that they can take with them on every set. Providing portfolio images as well as experience for models and actors. Due to COVID-19 creating a lot of downtimes, I recently started photographing FMX (Freestlye Motocross) classes for Colin Morrison and have definitely found a love for sports photography.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is extremely important, but be real when you do it. Most of my photography mentors were photographers that photographed me when I was a model. I learned so much from them but they never were rude or tried to make me feel like I couldn’t do it. They actually motivated me to try and let me borrow equipment when I first started. I wouldn’t be here without them today.
