Hidden Gems: Meet Kimberly Clausell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Clausell.

Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became a certified chef in 2007 graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta, GA. I was inspired to become a chef back in 2005 when I was my grandparent’s caretaker and had to figure out how to cook for them. Both of my grandparents had to have special diets due to diabetes so I had to figure out different dishes. My grandmother was a cook herself and everyone loved her cooking. My grandmother loved my food and I decided to attend culinary school and I had no idea how I was going to pay for school so she co-signed my student loan, and this started my journey into the food world. During my time at Le Cordon Bleu, I learned so much and made many relationships. I also figured out what part of the industry I would like to have a career in. I had a professor who encouraged me to look beyond just working in a kitchen or restaurant she always said think outside the box there are many careers in culinary. So I found research and development very interesting I worked eight years in this field developing recipes for food products and coffee for retail and restaurants and franchises. In those eight years, I really found my passion and loved what I was doing. I started my own business and developed a line of gourmet rice crispy treats in 2012 and started a business venture with a mobile food truck. After my experience with the food truck, I went on to start online sales and have been a hit every since not only do I sell gourmet rice crispy treats, I sell custom cakes, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and flavored coffee.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During this journey, I have experienced financial hardships and setbacks but that has never stopped my determination. In April of 2020, I lost my job due to covid 19. I was the product development chef for two franchise companies Gloria Jeans Coffee and Its A Grind coffee. Going through the loss of my job pushed me to really focus on my brand.

What does success mean to you?
Defining success is first loving what you do and having tunnel vision to get it done. “ “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” “Courage is the most important of all virtues because without courage, you cannot practice any of the other virtues consistently.” “I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels.” Maya Angelou
