Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Kramer.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was incredibly insecure as a kid. I had struggled with acne as a teen and through my early adult years and tried numerous treatments and products (including facials, dry ice therapy, topical medication, cortisone injections and Accutane) — all without positive results. When I entered college, I found an Acne Clinic and it changed my life! I started working there and after clearing my own skin, I realized I had a passion for treating and preventing acne, scarring, and discoloration for others.
I later refined my skills by completing a highly-coveted apprenticeship with James E. Fulton, Jr. M.D., Ph.D — founder of The Acne Research Institute and co-inventor of Vitamin A Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide Gel, and topical Erythromycin. I studied diligently and then opened my own practice in 1996, Corrective Skincare, along with a clinical-grade product line, CSLA Skincare.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not always been easy but what I saw as a challenge then is ultimately a blessing now. Being a small business owner in LA County is difficult, but it was so much more complicated during the pandemic. I had worked hard to keep things afloat with two locations during that time while abiding by LA County regulations. While Corrective Skincare’s product line, CSLA Skincare, kept both offices going (we were able to grow our online sales by over 400% and Virtual Consultations increased by over 700% in 2020!) a mandatory closure for Personal Care Services really took its toll. I decided to close one of my locations. As deflating as this was to initially consider, I was able to focus my energy on the Los Angeles office and scale online support for product sales and virtual consultations. A more narrowed focus enabled us to help even more people clear their skin anywhere in the world!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Corrective Skincare and CSLA Skincare?
Corrective Skincare specializes in acne-clearing facials, DiamondGlow Treatments, paramedical extractions, chemical peels, body acne treatments, and skincare regimens utilizing our exclusive clinical product line of acne-safe skincare products, CSLA Skincare. With a 26 years track record of proven success stories including almost 500, 5-star reviews on Yelp over the years, we are inclusive to all genders identities, ages, skin tones, and sexual orientations. If you have skin, we can help!
There is no magic pill that would spontaneously clear acne or scarring or make someone look 10 years younger. I’ve spent my entire career helping clients take personal responsibility for their skin’s health specifically because I was a consumer dealing with the same issues and it’s frustrating! There is an endless list of skin care super-ingredients and must-have wonder drugs. In the world of marketing, between upselling and silly semantics, somehow consumers lost their ability to think for themselves and use common sense. That said, I’m most proud of our ability to provide education: why certain things work, why diet is important, how much product to use, how to apply it, etc. We go over genetics, stress, and dig deep into the lifestyle of the person we are treating. We work on the individual, not just their skin. I find the whole thing fascinating and I love helping people find their confidence.
