Hidden Gems: Meet Haley McDonald of For Arts Sake Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley McDonald.

Hi Haley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always wanted to have a career that allowed for creative freedom and was making some kind of positive impact on the world. Last year, I came up with the idea of selling art-inspired makeup and partnering with art non-profits throughout the United States. For Arts Sake Cosmetics was launched August 1st, 2020 and has been growing ever since. One of my most popular products is an eye shadow palette inspired by “The Starry Night” by Vincent Van Gogh. Currently, I am partnered with Kids & Art. They use the power of the arts and creativity to mitigate stress, anxiety, and trauma-induced from diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and other critical medical conditions. I’ve dedicated a lot of time and effort into For Art’s Sake Cosmetics, but every moment has been enjoyable. I truly love what I do and feel fulfilled knowing that I am contributing to the art community. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to be resilient. If it was easy to start a successful business then everyone would do it. You can’t let yourself lose steam and give up. There’s nothing more gratifying than seeing your vision come to life!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t, but I am grateful for how far I’ve come this past year. The biggest struggle is consistent results from our marketing, and we’re trying to focus on retention marketing and increasing our returning customer rate. We have also dealt with inventory delays. It’s been a learning process!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’ve been in the marketing industry for 10+ years. I specialize in digital marketing specifically. Having this knowledge has really helped in me launching For Art’s Sake Cosmetics! I don’t know of another makeup brand that donates a portion of every purchase back to an art non-profit. That’s what makes For Art’s Sake Cosmetics so special. Whether you’re into painting, music or just makeup in general, I think you’ll find something of interest in our product selection. We appreciate all the support we can get!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see shopping being more and more online. I also see a bigger push for clean beauty.
