Hidden Gems: Meet George DeLoache of George W. DeLoache Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to George DeLoache.

Hi George, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
From the very first moment, I saw my images develop in the darkroom while working on my Boy Scout merit badge as a young boy, I have been consumed with a passion for creating photographic images.

I have spent most of my adult life as a professional photographer, based in the Los Angeles area, and own and operate a studio, located in the Downtown Los Angeles Art District.

In recent years, I have focused on business branding photography, corporate portraiture, and headshots, as well as doing family portraits for my clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In my earlier career, there was a degree of reluctance to hire me for large jobs due to my age and ethnicity. We have to remember that it was a different time. Much has changed since those earlier days.

I have changed radically, and now ethnicity has little effect on being chosen for the larger jobs. It was the joining of Gordon Parks to Life Magazine staff as the first Black photographer to reach that pinnacle of professional photography that let me know that there were no limits to how far I could go in the profession.

In the 80s, I was considered one of the top music photographers on the west coast. It was the time of big parties and fast living, and I got caught up like so many. Before I knew it, I got trapped in the drug abuse trap like so many in the music industry. I went from the top to the bottom in only a few months.

In 1996, I got sober with the help of the Veteran Administration’s recovery program. I lost everything due to my drug use, but today I have been sober for 26 years, and everything has been restored

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in self-promotion and personal branding photography.

That is, I produce photographic images that help people market themselves. I have two passions. The first is helping people acquire great photography for their marketing efforts.

The second is helping people preserve their family histories by creating family heirloom portraits. I feel a great responsibility to provide quality family portraits for my business clients and for some select families.
