Hidden Gems: Meet Felipe Gutierrez of SE7EN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felipe Gutierrez.

Hi Felipe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been in the health and fitness space for close to 15 years. Prior to the start of my fitness journey, I had never picked up a weight or have ever drank a single green juice in my life. The world of bodybuilding was all so foreign and very intimidating to be honest. Fitness was very one dimensional at that time. In that time, fitness magazines were full of men and women with zero percent body fat and extremely good looks, nothing that I could remotely relate to.

The honest reason why I continued going to the gym was a close friend of mine and also my gym partner was getting incredible results and figured I could follow his footsteps and get to where he was at if I stuck with it. After a few months of training in the gym, I started seeing results and girls started to pay attention to me, so naturally I started to become obsessed with the gym.

Not long after, I began to look into ways to expedite my progress and that when I was first introduced to supplements. I started with whey protein as the majority normally do. Then the pre-workouts, the post-work, the intra workout, the fish oils, the multivitamins, the BCAA’s, the EAA’s, the this and that, etc. etc. started to make their way to my pantry. Going into the local nutrition store and buying everything the salesperson recommended was the highlight of my week.

After a lot, and I mean a lot of trial and error, I came to understand that most things on the shelf were not necessary. I learned health and fitness doesn’t need to be so complicated but I understand how confusing it can be when you’re just starting. I started figuring out ways to simplify training and shared it with my friends. The feedback I was receiving was great. The seed was planted and I began to look at ways to make my hobby of fitness into a business.

I first took a stab at personal training at my friends local gym and realized it was not for me. I had a lot of things going on at the time and never gave it a fair opportunity, only lending a few hours out of my week to personal training never allowed it to really flourish. I then decided starting a fitness apparel line would be more ideal for me, being I love to design but that fell through also. Made a ton of mistakes or should I say, I made a ton of investments on life lessons. After only seeing short-lived success, I realized I should focus on a more conventional path which lead me to taking my career as a life insurance agent more serious.

Fast forward six years. I was pretty successful as an agent but I felt something missing in my life. Cliche, I know but it’s true. I did quite a bit of reflection on my life and realized that my passion to help others within the realm of health and fitness was still there. I just wasn’t sure what my point of entry would be. This is when my close friend and ex gym partner were having a conversation and he pitched the idea of me starting my own supplement line. I disregarded it at first but after some thought.

I began to get really excited about the idea.

I would be able to create a supplement line that was more than selling protein and pre-workout. I wanted to create a brand that would bring forth a community of empowerment. I wanted to simplify nutrition for the everyday athlete who just wants to feel better and live a healthier lifestyle.

With the help of my friend, I decided the first product I would release would be a greens powder. Nothing too sexy, but something the vast majority would benefit from. Now becoming more of a reality, I began all the boring legal stuff and locked in the name of SE7EN on 7.7.2020 (not intentionally but makes for a cool story).

It has been a journey, as every small business owner knows. There has been some high’s but a whole lot more low’s. I’ve learned so much in the last year and half in business. Things are starting to click and momentum is building. I am proud to announce we have recently expanded our line to include a protein powder and are in the works of bringing out an endurance supplement soon.

I am so incredibly grateful for all my friends, family everyone else who has supported me through this journey. My commitment is to continue pushing forward and providing only the best quality supplements, strong support and inspiration to lead you to a happier + healthier life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all.

Just like with any other businesses, the road is never as smooth as you expect it to me. Being I started my business in the middle of the pandemic, the first issue came when the manufacturer was struggling to find manpower to fulfill my initial order. I was expecting to have my product in 3-4 weeks after being placed but that soon began to get pushed back week after week. No product means no income and I had no other option than to weather the storm. The positive to this was that I was given more time to work on all the other backend stuff. I was able to complete my website, work on ideas for marketing my product and honing in on the true intention of the brand.

When I finally received my product, the label was not what I was expecting. I had issues with the print being dull, the label being easily damaged and areas of the label not as legible as I would like it to be. I tried finding another label printer but still not the quality I was looking for. Its been a struggle finding a label printer that would execute on my vision but after some time asking around, I finally came across someone who sees and understands my ideas. We have recently collaborated on a redesign of my labels and happy to say we came up with something I am very excited about. Our newly redesigned greens are in production right now. I am so excited to share them with the world.

Other challenges have been figuring out what I am good at and learning to delegate the work I am not the best at. Investing time into figuring out how to share the workload has been so beneficial. I get to have more time working on the things I am good at and have become a lot more efficient with my time.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The name SE7EN stems from the idea that we are all perfect. The goal is to bring people to reconnect with their personal excellence.

We sell supplements that simplify nutrition for the everyday athlete and lead them to live a happier and healthier life.

We would like to be known for our commitment to empowering people by bringing them quality supplements, strong support and inspiration.

What sets us apart is our commitment to being transparent with our clients, offering truth and simplicity and only offering products we believe would add value to their lives.

I am most proud of the community we are building. A community of inspiration and empowerment.

We currently carry a greens powder made up of fruits, veggies and pre-biotics + pro-biotics to help with boosting immunity, natural energy and improving gut health. Our Plant protein is made from Pea protein, Sacha inch protein and hemp protein bringing a complete and balanced nutritional profile. Our endurance supplement is currently in the works and should be out sometime around summer 2022.

What matters most to you?
Intention and transparency. I want people to know that our intention is only to improve people’s quality of life. We’re not looking to have a long list of supplements with the intent of only making a profit but a brand with select products that will actually make a difference in their lives. We want people to come along with us through this journey and understand we don’t have everything figured out either, we are learning along the way also. We would love for everyone to offer their feedback on our products along with their opinions as to how to improve and advance the brand, create future products and build something really cool together.
