Hidden Gems: Meet Farhan Chowdhury of United Together

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farhan Chowdhury.

Farhan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I moved to USA about eight years ago. I went to Minnesota state university for Information systems. After school, I moved to Minneapolis for a job. I have been modeling since I was six years old.

My parents are in the fashion industry. My mom has been a fashion designer for 40 years and has won multiple fashion designer awards. My dad is in the garments business. My mom is actually the one who taught me everything about modeling. My parents wanted me to try out modeling here for fun, but I wasn’t interested. To keep my word, I gave it a shot anyway. I went to different modeling castings but got rejected because I had different color/ethnicity. That rejection worked as motivation to do something about this.

I got my first opportunity to model for my friend’s brand and from that day, my modeling journey started. After lots of rejections, lots of humiliation, lots of hard work and a lot of sacrifices. I started working for bigger brands like New York Fashion Week, N Vogue, LPF, Nubi, Melevated, Life Customs, etc. I opened and closed NYFW 4 times and also launched my mom’s brand here.

I have seen so many people struggling in this industry and wanted to do something. I couldn’t depend on others to make the change. So I decided to become the change. I decided to open my own fashion show and event organizing company where I was the boss and could give a chance to whoever I wanted to.

There are three major rules in my company –
1. Everyone will be respected no matter what.
2. Everyone will be treated equal.
3. There will be no requirements to join my fashion show company no matter their race, color, height, weight or ethnicity.

After that, I launched my reality tv show company, magazine, mobile app, film production and modeling agency company. We did a lot of shows including New York Fashion week, about six shows. In September, we will be doing our 7th one. Los Angeles fashion week, about five times. In October, we will be doing our 6th one. We also organized Fashion weeks in Milan, Malta, Australia, London, Atlanta and Boston. Our reality tv show is about how we organize each event. We have about six episodes on our website as well as on YouTube. We Also have a modeling bootcamp partnered with Blu Ink and Evolutionare management company, where we teach new models different things about modeling. Like how to walk, do their makeup and hair, post on social media and how to brand themselves.

When COVID happened, I heard lots of stories about models getting harassed and mistreated. They didn’t know which photographers or producers were good to work with so I decided to build an app which would help out models to book jobs faster, easier and safely. The app hasn’t been launched and this is the main reason I had to move to Los Angeles in September 2022. This app will be like Uber and Lyft for models. Wherever they go, they can land any job but also with safe people and get paid in 5-7 business days. But, if anyone violates any terms of my app’s rules and regulations, they will be fined $300k and up to six years in prison. All clients and models have to sign the paperwork. So I hope with this rule I can minimize, a little bit, the bad things happening to our models and producers. Recently I have started taking flying lessons and am on my way to getting a Private Pilot license. My next goal is to get a Commercial License and fly wherever I always wanted to go.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely, it’s not been a smooth road but kind people helped me to get where I am now. It’s hard when you are from different ethnicity but I am glad not all people think the same and give me so many good opportunities. I also mentioned a lot about my struggles and everything in my story as well.

Our youtube channel we just published six days ago. But I hope we can go somewhere with this. I wanted to drive all traffic to my website so I waited a long time to open our channel.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
United Together has the simple goal of bringing together different cultures, designers, and traditions of many different styles by doing just that: uniting them together. Every aspiring designer, model, and artist has a dream-and we want to learn about it and give them those opportunities. We are redefining fashion and beauty standards to be an all-inclusive ordeal that incorporates everyone, regardless of background or experience. When we unite together, we flourish with our common passion: a love for art and fashion.

We are a creative consortium of hardworking designers, models, and entrepreneurs from around the world with one common passion: the art of fashion. Our goal is to share that passion with all, redefining the fashion industry to have no limits and include all with a desire to expand their fashion career. United Together is just that: uniting other designers, models and entrepreneurs from all parts of the world, regardless of experience, background, or appearance. Everyone deserves a chance, an opportunity, an experience to achieve their dreams and that’s what our whole goal is here with our show: United Together.

What makes us different from other fashion shows is our objective of acceptance for every individual in our artistic community. Instead of discriminating against individuals, we celebrate our differences and allow each personnel a chance to both teach and learn from others. We break the mold by inviting everyone to be a part of our show, despite people’s race, culture, sexual orientation, gender, religious practices, and more. Every person is creative in their own way and everyone deserves a chance to show their talent.

United Together has the goal of expanding to different parts of the world with shows that emulate the different cultures that we celebrate. United Together will have new designers and models depending on the location, allowing every aspiring entrepreneur and artist a chance to display their hard work. We look forward to learning more about different designers along the way and thank you for accompanying us on this journey.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I already see the change in the industry. I see a lot of companies are becoming all-inclusive and acceptance of everyone. Surely my app will bring a lot of change in the industry. People won’t have to rely anymore in modeling agencies anymore and get treated badly from them. Models and Producers will be safe from getting scammed by fake people. They will have a safe platform where they can safely practice their craft.
