Hidden Gems: Meet Daniella Gershon of Wildcard The Label

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniella Gershon.

Hi Daniella, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up always playing it safe and playing by the book based on the idea of success that was engraved in my head from a young age. I studied finance at NYU and climbed my way up the corporate ladder in some of the largest banks across the globe. From the outside in, I had it all figured out.

When the pandemic hit, I moved from LA for what I thought would be.a couple of months in Mexico. I didn’t realize at the time I would be embarking on my journey as a digital nomad hopping from one country to the next for almost 2 years and counting.

Venturing into uncharted territory fueled a fire in me. I learned to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. I felt fearless. Once my physical boundaries dropped, it’s as if it paved the way for me for the rest of my inhibitions to come crashing down. I became this person that took risks and chased what she wanted. And that’s when the concept of Wildcard was born.

Wildcard was founded to create the happy medium between sexy lingerie and boring underwear. The idea is to elevate your everyday by wearing comfortable and playful matching underwear sets for all hours in between date night and laundry day. Our days of constricting lingerie are over. Our mission is to bring back the fun in underwear and effortlessness in lingerie. We want to hand you the cards to feel both powerful and comfortable as you take the world by storm.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s always one step forward and two steps back. Starting a business on your own will really test your self-discipline and perseverance. At one point, you almost learn to laugh it off and expect setbacks as part of the process.

Some people believe in outsourcing. I decided to do everything myself. Jury is still out on whether this was the smartest thing to do. But, there was no turning back once I started. If I didn’t know how to do something, I taught myself.

I sorted through endless materials firsthand to source for quality and comfort. I built my own website after taking an extensive UX design course. I experimented with writing copy to find the brand’s inner voice. I tried my hand at creative directing to create content that brought the brand to life. Lastly, I am still learning the art and science that is social media.

To say the least, it hasn’t been easy. Forging a path through trial and error takes way more time and sleepless nights.

In hindsight, I still wouldn’t trade it for the world. This process has taught me so much and I can confidently say I know every aspect of my business inside and out. Even more so, it’s helped me tap into a whole array of skills I never knew I had – mostly because I was too afraid to try. It’s amazing what you can do when you take a leap of faith and live outside your comfort zone.

We’ve been impressed with Wildcard The Label, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We got tired of seeing the same sexy black lace bras in storefronts. We were ready for a change and figured the world might be too.

Wildcard specializes in colorful eco mesh underwear sets destined to be worn together for a whole moment. They are designed with comfort in mind for everyday wear to empower you to feel confident in the modern-day world. Our garments are fun and flirty, yet flexible and breathable. They are soft and light to the touch, but bold where it counts.

We are recognized for our playful use of bright colors and exclusive prints. We are faithful to soft mesh with bi-lateral stretch for maximum mobility. We don’t believe in cutting corners. We pay attention to the smallest details up until the embellished finish on our trimmings.

We are proud to boast that our garments are made exclusively from 100% recycled mesh. They are designed and made in Portugal – the modern powerhouse of sustainability. Each garment is mindfully handmade with the help of two local studios, that are led by like-minded women who share our values on slow fashion. By removing factories from the equation, we ensure that our high standards are always met and that our people are always looked after.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
While the Covid-19 Crisis was a taxing global setback, it was a comeback in mindset. They were grounding times that served as a reminder for us all to get back in touch with our core values. The lockdown granted us the gift of time to reflect on who we are and who we want to be. It also helped us get extremely comfortable with the loungewear section of our closets.

With newfound light at the end of the tunnel, we can return to reality as our best selves. What better way to do it than making every occasion an opportunity to dress up? After all, we have lost time to make up for. Let’s welcome fun back into our wardrobes with a pop of color and a splash of glamour.
