Hidden Gems: Meet Crystal Pham & Linda Luu of Simply Borrowed Dresses

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Pham & Linda Luu.

Hi Crystal & Linda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The concept behind Simply Borrowed Dresses is borrowing a dress from a friend. We’ve all been guilty of buying a $100+ dress wearing it for a few hours only to have it sitting in the back of our closets collecting dust. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just borrow the dress? Let’s face it, when would you ever wear that dusty blue dress again from when you were a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding,

When we first started, we only had a few dresses from our personal collections. Now, after two years we offer thousands of dresses from over a hundred different brands!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. We launched our business in the Fall of 2019, we had such high hopes and we so excited to step out of our comfort zone. Soon after, the pandemic hit towards the end of 2019 and all weddings, social gatherings, and public events were canceled. It wasn’t easy but we managed to stay afloat through it all.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Simply Borrowed Dresses is a dress rental company. We specialize in bridesmaids and formal dresses. The average cost of a bridesmaids dress is around $200. That’s a lot considering you’ll probably only wear this once. Why not rent it instead? For the price of that one bridesmaids dress you just bought you could rent a different dress for each of your events for the whole year! We are solely online based so are able to keep costs low and transfer that savings onto our customers.

We love the concept of mismatched bridesmaids dresses. We believe that a bridesmaid dress should reflect the individual styles and personalities of your bridesmaids, having them feel comfortable and confident on your wedding day! We offer free consultations to help brides and bridesmaids curate the perfect dresses that fit both their aesthetic and budget!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up in an Asian households, we were taught the value of a dollar. How we could stretch that dollar and how to make the most of what we had. It really pained us to have to buy a dress for one event and never having the opportunity to wear it again, that’s why it felt so good when a friend asked if they could borrow it! It was almost like the dress was being put to good use. That was how our childhoods shaped us to who we are today and how we were able to implement that core value in our business.
