Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Churn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello! My name is Angie Churn I am a CEO, host, A&R, content writer, and self-made entrepreneur who has a passion for Hip-Hop music, pop culture, and media. I graduated in 2020 with my bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Cal State University Long Beach along with being a member of Tri Delta Sorority.
Growing up, I was always interested in the entertainment industry and those around me would always tell me that I was going to become something big. I can present many types of news in an interesting way to keep the listeners wanting more. Being brought up in Orange County, California, I am familiar with the taste of the audience and know the market quite well. I am confident in interviewing guests from different fields and backgrounds.
My journey began when I had the opportunity to intern at Power 106 radio station, LA’s #1 For Hip-Hop. This was a great start to my career and confirmed that this is what I was destined to do. I had the opportunity to go on air numerous times and I got to meet many celebrities from Da Baby, Jack Harlow, Blue Face, and more!
Another thing that I am extremely passionate about is giving back. Last year, I had the opportunity to conduct the first annual WHAT’S POPPIN LA back-to-school drive. I was able to assemble 50 bags and supplies to give to elementary schools in Los Angeles.
I continue to pursue my dreams by working as A&R for NyoobieZ Radio which is featured on Sirius XM Channel 142 (HBCU). My role is to recruit artists to appear on the show along with generating content for the show. At the first annual NyoobieZ Radio Showcase, I had the honor of receiving the award for News/Media of the Year in 2021.
I am also a lead blogger for The Grind Magazine along with writing blogs for various websites. This is just the beginning for me so be sure to tap in and tell a friend to tell a friend because you are not going to want to miss this!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road to get to where I am today.
Although I have had a couple of setbacks, I never gave up. I have always been an ambitious person and know that it will take hard work and dedication to achieve my goals. It is so easy to get lost in the small problems; deals that have gone bad, goals not being reached, and being rejected on multiple occasions.
But you must find the motivation to keep going. Those negative experiences have built a pathway for my desire to succeed. If you push through the difficult times, your hard work will be rewarded.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about What’s Poppin LA with Angie?
I am currently the CEO/Host of my own show, What’s Poppin LA which is a complete dream of mine! I started my journey in July 2020 and I have already interviewed over 250 guests. My platform gives independent artists the opportunity to showcase their music and their latest projects.
I have also expanded my team and currently have 10 interns who help navigate the show. In the past year, I have launched my website (whatspoppinlosangeles.com) which showcases the latest news in Hip-Hop/Pop Culture. I also sell What’s Poppin LA merchandise from face masks, eyelashes, shot glasses, hand sanitizer, wine glasses, and more!
What I am most proud of is that I started my company from the ground up! It is literally my baby and I am so proud of how far I have come! If there are any artists or creatives who whats to showcase their craft, hit us up on Instagram (@_whatspoppinla).
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that I feel is most important to my success is to energize others by spreading positive energy.
I also believe that you must be well organized and have structured thinking. Having strong time management and organizational skills is also essential to succeed in the entertainment industry.
Lastly, it is very important to establish rapport with clients and potential sponsors to build strong relationships.
