Exploring Life & Business with Tiaunna Koonce of T’s Vip Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiaunna Koonce.

Hi Tiaunna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I would watch my mother glamorize her clients as a professional hairstylist. They would leave feeling beautiful and that’s what inspired me to start my journey as a stylist. It took a while but later I obtained my cosmetology license. I noticed the older generations having a hard time being transported to hair salons. So I decided I’ll be the one to make it easier for them and I came up with the idea to open a mobile hair salon that comes to you. It has an added wheelchair lift, I can accommodate all including those with special needs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road wasn’t easy I went through a lot of different struggles. After saving my money to make my dream come true. I paid an independent contractor to convert my ideas from a shuttle bus to a mobile hair salon. He ended up taking the money and disappearing. I was set back a year after that. I had to convert the salon myself. With the mobile salon being new to California it’s not easy getting all the mobile salon business licenses in all the cities that I want to cover.

As you know, we’re big fans of T’s Vip Salon. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a licensed cosmetologist. I offer weaves, braids, ponytails, kid’s styles, dreads and natural hair care. T’s Vip Salon is a luxury mobile hair salon on wheels. I am able to bring the salon to you.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Although T’s Vip Salon services everyone, The idea was to focus on the clients who are unable to make it to a traditional salon due to transportation or disabilities.
