Exploring Life & Business with Natalie Martin of Monica Ann Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Martin.

Hi Natalie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been a PMU brow artist going on three years. I grew very passionate about perfecting my craft. I have taken over seven pmu trainings ranging from Microblading, ombré brows, combo brows, and lip blush, and 3D areola tattooing. I love making women feel confident and bringing out their natural beauty. In December 2021, my friend and business partner Josh Mancillas and I started a Pmu academy to train others in Microblading and Combo Brows. We have had about 15 students train under us. Josh and I hold nothing back we go into great detail on proper techniques to achieve beautiful results. We offer continued mentorship to our students.

In October 2021, Josh lost his sister suddenly it was a very hard time. His sister Monica was a very caring and loving person. She was always so positive and sure to tell us how proud she was of our accomplishments. Josh and I wanted to do something to honor her name. We started the Monica Ann foundation March 2022. The foundation is a way to use our services to give back. We offer 3D areola tattoos for free for breast cancer patients after reconstruction. We also offer brows to cancer patients along with brows and lip blushing for scaring when it comes to women that have been victims of domestic violence or people in traumatic accidents. Growing up my parents valued in helping others. I remember as a child walking down skid row in Los Angeles handing out sack lunches and blankets every year. I always wanted to give back in my industry and I’m so honored to help others in need of these services through my dear friend’s name. Our goal to bring back a sense of normalcy. Give women confidence and spread kindness to others in our community and beyond across the world! I also love showing women anything you work hard towards is worth the sweat and tears. I started with few clients, I struggled, but one thing I continued to practice and put myself out there to grow a successful business!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, I struggled with getting consistent results. I have never had anyone complain but I would look at each client at their touch up and really thought out how to make it better. My retention on clients is so amazing now!

When it comes to pmu training, our work has really reflected into our trainings. Students get valuable training and support.

The foundation is still a trial.

Figuring out the steps to make it helpful and smooth. We have full-time jobs so we fit these clients on our off days and since March 2022 have over 20 scheduled clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Monica Ann Foundation?
I want to highlight the Foundation over my other two businesses. I realize so many women are in need of 3d areola tattoos. After a long and hard journey being able to get a realistic areola vs a 2d one color is a big difference.

We specialize is 3D areola, brows and lip blushing.

I think what sets us apart is the fact that we do all this for free for qualifying clients.

I’m most proud of how much I extended from being a makeup to brow permanent makeup artist to now using my skill to give back.

Our whole purpose is to empower others, give them a bit of hope and love, and to be a positive impact just like Monica was to others!

How do you think about luck?
I honestly was very lucky starting off my friend Josh was able to teach me. I ran with all the information and did go out of my way to become a successful artist. After just two years, I became a pro team member for Tina Davies Professional a well know company in permanent makeup. I used to spend hours on her blog and now I’m part of teaching other women has been full circle. I considered it lucky to be part of the team but I worked hard to become a good artist.

I’m also so blessed from the support of my husband. He pushed me to start doing brows. He’s been continual support throughout this journey. During a time I felt like quoting he reminded me how many women I had made happy and if gave up now I wouldn’t give myself the chance to be a better artist.
