Exploring Life & Business with Lee Levy of Nex Graphics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Levy.

Hi Lee, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
This entire industry, if you can believe, was an “accident” for me. After being awful at “computer programming” in school, I was told by my teacher that I would “never make it in this industry, so I hope you have another career planned”. If only he was alive today, lol.

So yes, I was terrible at coding back in high school and had no intention of even doing this for a living.

Fast foward to a few years later, we had a brand-new mail-order business going, and could not afford to pay for a brand-new website at the time. I was given an HTML book and told to learn html because I could be good at it. Big joke, right? After a bit of panic and trauma, I looked through the book and thought “well this is not as hard as it used to be”. And lo and behold, I had our first website up and running a month later, fully coded HTML site. Shortly after, friends and family got free sites.

Ten years later after selling the old business, I move out here to California and opened my own company, YES for WEB DESIGN! Since then, many changes have occurred, mobile responsiveness, WordPress, E-commerce sites, and much much more. In this business, you must adapt or die. Ten years later, including a battle with breast cancer, and COVID shutdowns, I am still standing strong. Ready and willing to take on any new challenges this industry provides with ever-so-changing technology.

I love helping my clients build their dream websites. Websites represent a business, so it is so very important to build a beautiful (as well as functional) website. That is what I do. I meet with EVERY one of my clients face to face, and we go over everything together, from styles to colors, to expectations and needs. I see who their target audience is and go through a very long checklist to make sure we have all points covered. Having a satisfied client is the most important thing for me, and the looks on their faces when they go live is the utmost reward!

Today, I speak at many business and empowerment conferences, as well as the big WordPress WordCamp conference in September of 2022.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. This industry had MANY challenges, and technology is ALWAYS changing. We stay on top of everything.

The cancer did cause a MAJOR hurdle for me, because, beyond my control, I was feeling very weak much of the times and it was hard to hold my business together. I sat in the chemo room with my laptop. It’s just a depressing environment so always tried to stay positive. Throughout that time, I made a long list of things I wanted to accomplish and glad to say that one by one I attacked them all!

COVID didn’t help anyone, but luckily, we managed to float and got right back on the boat, helping as many businesses as we can struggling through this time as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nex Graphics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in Web Design, Graphic Design, and email marketing. We especially love helping startups because they need it all. We also design email marketing campaigns for our clients.

What sets us apart (and what our clients love most) – we are VERY RESPONSIVE. All of our clients locally we have MET FACE TO FACE. This gives them a sense of confidence in who they are working with and not just an email or a voice behind the phone.

I am very proud of the fact that in the last year I am asked very frequently to speak at many kinds of events. I speak about business in general, being a female owned business, keeping my business floating through Cancer and COVID, and the VERY large conference, WordCamp which is WordPress’s official conference. That was HUGE for me.

What are your plans for the future?
We plan to continue growing and continue to be the best out there supporting our clients. Nothing will ever change there.
