Exploring Life & Business with Jill Elam of Pretty Face Snatched Waist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Elam.

Hi Jill, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started many years ago as a licensed cosmetologist. Upon completion of high school, I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go in, but my mom made it very clear that “I had to do something”. A good friend of mine was going to cosmetology school, so I thought sure why not; I’ll go to cosmetology school with my friend. After completing the program, I worked in the field for many years but in all honesty, it wasn’t my passion and or my forte, truthfully speaking, I wasn’t that good at it. After leaving the field of cosmetology, I worked several odd and end jobs, just enough to pay my bills. Eventually, that played out and I decided to go back to school. I started with my associate’s degree then got a bachelor’s, master’s and eventually a doctoral degree at the young age of 55 (It’s never too). During the many years of school, I was also working as a social worker. While I enjoy helping people and that is my overall passion, the job itself was not fulfilling. Fast forward to the pandemic. The pandemic hits, now I’m working from home so in my downtime, I would go on social media. As I’m scrolling, I noticed there was a new trend starting to take over the beauty industry, that trend was body sculpting. I did some research, got trained and certified and the rest is history. After about six months in the business, I decided I wanted to start training women in the art of body sculpting. Because my passion is helping people especially women training was a natural transition. My goal is to not just train women in body sculpting but to also give them mentorship into becoming entrepreneurs. I’m finally in my Sweet Spot!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not a smooth road at all. I started this business in the middle of a Pandemic, having to close and reopen several times. Finding a location and building my brand from ground zero has been a challenge.

We’ve been impressed with Pretty Face Snatched Waist, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is Pretty Face Snatched Waist. I started the company in 2018, selling weight loss products. At that time, I didn’t really know what I was doing, not to mention I was selling a product I didn’t necessarily believe in; the business did not flourish. In 2020 I rebranded the business to include body sculpting. After a period, I began training other women in the art of body sculpting. My primary business goal is to train and certify women and mentor them to become entrepreneurs. What sets me apart from others would be my skill set, experience and wisdom. Additionally, the field of body sculpting is not regulated by the State Board of California, however I am a licensed cosmetologist, whereas most trainers are not. I also have a degree in organizational management which helps them as they are becoming business owners through mentorship. I’m most proud that I have been able to train women and help them create financial freedom. I would like your readers to know that I have a passion for helping women become successful business owners through my body sculpting training and mentorship course. I offer training and certification in body sculpting as well as products related to the field. In addition, I offer personalized facial packages/treatments.

What’s next?
My future plan is to grow the training portion of my business, expand my location and create a digital training product on entrepreneurship. The biggest change I’m looking to make would be securing a bigger location to accommodate larger groups for the training classes as well as rent out private suites to other beauty professionals.
