Exploring Life & Business with Jeffrey Woodard of Solid Arms Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Woodard.

Hi Jeffrey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been training mostly all of my life. I began weightlifting at six years old when my brother, 14 at the time, got his first set of weights. Immediately upon watching my brother go at it, I knew lifting was something I had to do felt as natural as walking. It helped that it coincided with my dream of playing football for the San Francisco 49ers. At six, I decided I’d work as hard as I could to make my dreams come true. By the time I was 17, I knew I would not have a career in football but I’d always have the weights so I just kept working at my craft. And at 19 years old, I decided I wanted to take my passion for training and pass it on those who wanted to learn. Best decision I’ve ever made. It’s without a doubt the most meaningful thing in my life outside of family.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Things were pretty rough for me for about four years. Took some time for me to learn how and be willing to change some personality traits that we holding me back. Now I’m in my sixth year and I’ve just had my best year yet. I train my clients at Speakeasy Fitness. It’s and fun and energetic atmosphere. My favorite amenity is the cardio Cinema room. They’ve got new locations opening and some plans that I am excited about. I’ve met some pretty cool people at Speakeasy. Overall I am very glad I didn’t leave when things got tough. The struggle has led me to grow in ways I didn’t see possible and I see a new and exciting future ahead of me.

We’ve been impressed with Solid Arms Fitness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I named my business Solid Arms Fitness because I believe an effective workout program and proper nutrition are just that. They are solid, reliable weapons that we can all use to improve our mental and physical health and promote longevity. One of the greatest things about learning how to improve and protect your health is that you can pass this valuable information on to those you care about. You can really have a substantial positive impact on the quality of life of those you love the most.

My specialty is health coaching. Yes as a trainer, I can teach you how to bulk and cut or how to build massive glutes and rock hard abs. I’ve always been known for my love of building muscle and strength but my favorite thing to do is teach people how to get what they want aesthetically while remaining healthy in the long term. There are so many unhealthy shortcuts out there. I just want people to know how to do it the right way. I love to educate people on how to keep things happening simple and effective.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
For most of my life, my dad was pretty ill. Poor lifestyle habits including a poor diet led to his many conditions. There weren’t many moments that we were able to spend quality time together. There was one Saturday morning that my father unexpectedly took me for a walk to my favorite NYC pizzeria and we sat down and had a couple of slices and just talked. It’s pretty simple but it’s a memory that I think about from time to time and it reminds me how important a memory of spending time with a father is to a son.
