Exploring Life & Business with Barrett Prendergast of Mamamoods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barrett Prendergast. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Valleybrink Road is a luxury gifting studio founded by lifestyle curator, Barrett Prendergast. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Barrett started her brand after a friend called her in a panic seven years ago. She needed twelve gifts for the cast of a tv show and needed them fast. Feeling completely uninspired by anything she found in the stores, she decided to put together a more luxurious gift in a wood box with artisan products and fresh flowers. The recipients were blown away and after posting a picture on Instagram, her gift box company was born. Her attention to detail and unique ability to create exceptional gifting experiences for her clients and the recipients has garnered her loyal customers who return again and again for her gifting expertise. Three years ago her husband, photographer Andre Vippolis, came on board to help build and grow Valleybrink Road. In 2020, Barrett launched a lifestyle blog called Barrett and The Boys, where she shares all things motherhood and lots of delicious recipes.

For the past two years, she has been working on a new brand called, Mamamoods with partner, Sonja Teri. Mamamoods, a lifestyle brand, is here to celebrate the highs and lows of motherhood honestly and inclusively. They create and curate products that bring humor and positivity to the stresses of everyday life and speak to all the moods mamas feel. They’re here to make you laugh, comfort you when you cry, and offer connection and community as you navigate the wild ride that is being a mother. Mamamoods just launched in May.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think running your own business is ever a smooth road, but I believe that we grow so much from the challenges we face. It really is just constant problem-solving. If you like doing that, then you will probably enjoy being an entrepreneur and small business owner! Things like growing a brand, logistics, streamlining fulfillment, learning how to give up some control over everything and trusting that the people you have hired will do what needs to be done…These are all things I have had to go through and learn from over the last decade.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mamamoods?

The founders, Barrett Prendergast and Sonja Teri, met briefly at a female entrepreneurs event in Los Angeles right after they both had their first babies. Years later, their paths crossed again at preschool, and they quickly reconnected. Weekends were spent hanging out with family, having honest conversations about the highs and lows of parenting, and bonding over all things motherhood. During a long Sunday talk about postpartum and where one finds connection on this parenting journey, the idea for Mamamoods was born.

“More than anything, we wanted to build a brand that was inspired by and representative of the phase of life we were so deeply entrenched in…a place where other moms could come and find connection, humor, and acceptance. It just felt like we all needed a place to get a big hug and also scream at the top of our lungs that this is all really f*cking hard!” – Barrett Prendergast
