Exploring Life & Business with Ashley LaRae of WENTV

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley LaRae.

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
WENTV was founded on the idea of giving filmmakers a home to grow their fan base while also earning residual income. I started WENTV a few years back after completing a film festival circuit with my first short film. The film had done well and won an award, and I thought to myself, is there a platform that can host my film and support my business as a filmmaker? The options were few and far between, and most importantly, did not resemble the filmmaking community, like how I had imagined. When I spoke to other filmmakers, I also realized, many of them were missing this same sense of community and needed a home for their extraordinary work. That is how WENTV began. WENTV is home to independent filmmakers in Los Angeles, and we are currently looking to expand our reach for filmmakers across the country to share their stories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Creating a startup always comes with its challenges. We find the biggest obstacle is keeping up with the demand to generate new video content. The time and process it takes for a filmmaker to complete their work can be time-consuming. Once their film is completed, they then must market and promote. WENTV understands this challenge and has made it their number one priority to find innovative ways to connect the filmmaker to their audience after their film is completed.

As you know, we’re big fans of WENTV. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
WENTV is such a unique opportunity because it is a platform that solely focuses on the independent filmmaker. A filmmaker that comes to our site creates their own channel and markets their own film. When new fans join to watch their film, the filmmaker will receive income on a per subscriber basis. WENTV also provides support to the filmmaker for production and marketing if they choose to take advantage of those packages. Our mission is to provide every filmmaker with the tools they need to be successful in running their own business. We are most proud that we can connect with future filmmakers and help on them on their journey to doing what they love.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that the city is full of creative energy. There are so many people innovating the life they want to live. I wish that there was less traffic. It would make getting to work much easier.
