Exploring Life & Business with Angel Shank of Savage Hair Collections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Shank.

Angel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I launched my hair business in August of 2020. But before that, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in 2014 which pushed me to pursue my dreams. In June 2018, I graduated from Los Angeles Southwest college with an associate’s degree in business, I wasn’t sure what I wanted my business to be in; I just knew I wanted to create something meaningful. My dream was to always be my own boss! As a child, I would be the store owner while my cousins would pretend to be the cashiers (LOL). I have always been a girl who marches to the beat of her own drum while wanting to be cute and dressed before stepping outside to play. Living in a world where being thin was more acknowledged & praised more than being a plus-size girl, I had no choice but to be comfortable in my own skin.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although this have not been a smooth road. In September 2018, I lost the love of my life/father of my child due to gun violence. At that moment, reality slap me in my face realizing that I’m a single mother now, knowing It was no way I cannot be successful from that day on. At the tender age of seven, I also lost my father to gun violence. Thankfully, I had the representation of strong women around me to keep me understanding that life is short with its challenges. My struggles now are internal. I tend to get in my way a lot which stops me from being aware of my own potential and what I can accomplish. I am now learning to live life to the fullest, take risks while also building the one I want for me and my daughter.

We’ve been impressed with Savage Hair Collections, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Savage hair collections is a Top quality Brazilian virgin hair company that targets every age. Selling 7 different textures in bundles, wigs, headband wigs, frontals, closures, tape-ins & clip-ins in lengths 14-30” while providing some textures that can go up to 50”. We also provide Beauty products such as edge control known as “savage edge grip”, lashes, flat irons, brushes, bonnets and hair cases that is perfect for hair on the go. The reason I named my company “SAVAGE” hair collections is to play on the word & meaning of savage. Savage is a powerful word, to me it means “Who cares what they think” be you 100%. That is why I put a list of 12 uplifting words on how to “unleash your inner savage” on the back of each one of my hair boxes that every customer touches. My goal is to enhance their beauty while giving every woman a lil piece of confidence.

My aspiration with this business is bigger than hair. I would love to one day soon give back to little girls and women who are fighting for their lives due to cancer. Experiencing losing two women in my family to cancer showed me how quickly they can get their self-esteem snatched away from them. As we know, every woman’s hair is their crown and not even a disease should take that from you. My mission is to remind women of who they are.

What makes you happy?
Making women feel beautiful! As women, we go through so much criticism about appearance. I’m providing products that make women smile. I am very proud I created this business. I plan to expand my business by reaching as many women as possible.
