Exploring Life & Business with Ramon Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramon Silva.

Art /Fashion /Design /Media Multidisciplinary in approach, Ramon Silva occupies many hats that developed from a foundational painting practice. Along with painting, fully activated installation spaces, performance and more Silva began to experiment and cross-pollinate genres and methods. By applying a fine art contemporary lens into commercial applications, Silva has been able to expand, explore his creative pállate and introduce a fresh aesthetic take on design. Ramon is currently working in the fashion and interior design space with emphasis on proprietary textile design concepts for both home furnishings and a apparel products. In this model, he is combing two separate entities whilst sharing the same aesthetic visual story and ethos.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having is easy. I spent 14 years in NYC developing my art practice, working a full-time job and enjoying the spoils of such a rich and diverse cultured city. Having California roots with the laye’d back mentality was never a struggle for me as I was highly motivated and passionate about what I was doing. The most difficult part is navigating through the “game’ aspect of the industry, there are many traps and falling and getting back up moments. You have to have a solid inner fortitude, spiritually and mentally to transcend everything that is thrown your way. Art is very subjective and there are many hoops to jump through, aligning yourself with the right “crowd’ and creating a sort of character that can be marketed is par for the course… In fact, one of the main reasons I choose to expand my practice into the commercial realm was the independence that model created for me. Being able to connect with people through fashion and decor as a-posed to waiting around for someone to co-sign my artwork and “put me on” in a gallery setting dynamic has created a beautiful and healthy space for me to operate in.

We’ve been impressed with CalifaCoast and CasaCalifa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
CalifaCoast (Fashion) and CasaCalifa (interior design) are in their infancy as far as brands go but the story, aesthetic and ethos all are very much vetted through a 20 plus career of art-making. The foundation and entry space for both brands are the meticulously in house designed print program offerings. Our textile design catalogue breaths life into both brands distinguishing themselves with an elevated and unique identity in the marketplace. CalifaCoast is a made in LA small batch cut & sew operation with its roots as a unisex, men and women’s swim line. The brand is currently diversifying with the inclusion of active, street, and resort-minded design. The label is steeped in California lifestyle reflected by its landscape, mythology, and cultural identity.

Although there is huge inspiration injected into the brand from a regional standpoint, it is in no way relegated to only serve that space. The brand ultimately speaks to a universal audience who enjoy unique, thoughtful and artistic design experiences that they can weave into their everyday lives. New collection dropping in the spring of 21 CasaCalifa is a contemporary decor design firm dealing in interior and exterior spaces for both business and residential applications. Currently offering in house designed posters as a starting point, the brand’s goals are to introduce a collection of home goods in wallpaper, shower curtains, pillows, duvet covers, outdoor furnishings and much more. With the similar ethos, aesthetics and shared print imagery pállate of the fashion brand, we are able to nest and weave quite an interesting story where decor and fashion come together. Four posters are currently available with additional products in development for spring 20 release.

What makes you happy?
I go to sleep, wake up making or thinking about art. I love creating whether from analog or digital perspectives. I value and cherish my peers, other creatives out here making and doing. It’s such an inspiration to see so many talented individuals following their dreams. I am happy to be apart of this life’s journey even with the current disheartening and confusing state of affairs in play. There is so much momentum for change and the reversals of outdated methodologies that are taking place within humanity. I’m here for it, fully engaged in my surroundings and in my life’s purpose.
