Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Hoy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband, Jeremy, and I met at a pest control company that his brothers owned. We were “encouraged” to go on a date by his family. With much resistance he went to get it over with and I went to get a free meal. But they were right and quickly fell in love and got married. So we realized the potential with his experience in the field and my experience in a small business office to run our own home service. By then, we have been doing pest control for seven years we decided to start our own pest control company.

Main Sail Pest Control started from scratch. We literally took to the streets knocking on doors and letting people know of this great company that will take care of your home. From the start, we tried to make each customer feel like family.

We have taken a lot of risks but because of the good relationship that we have had with our clients, we have been able to overcome any setbacks.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been smooth but it has been something we have really enjoyed. We love getting up and seeing how we can continue to build our company to provide for our family. We have made it a family event. My kids love all the merchandise that we have (shirts, hats, masks). My son has even sold a pest control service on a play date to his friend’s parents. But that has also been the biggest struggle because we have had to draw the line between work and personal life for balance.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a local pest control company. We offer pest control service for your home. What sets us apart is that we make sure each house has its own personal plan and our customers understand their service.

We define the term mom and pop business. I usually tell my customers that my husband is going to be taking care of their house and if there is any problems to let me know and he will be sleeping on the couch.

I want readers to know that hard work and integrity should be the base of any company that you trust to care of any of your needs.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Dreaming big, understanding profit and loss and taking an extra minute to see how someone is doing can go a long way.
