Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya Johnson.
Hi LaToya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I was always active whether that was through school sports or just being outdoors running or riding my bike. However, proper nutrition wasn’t always available due to poverty. We mostly ate what was available to us in a single-parent household with seven children.
It wasn’t really until college that I began to truly understand the value of nutrition and proper movement of my body. During this time, I also had to navigate the hardship of watching my mom battle colon cancer. She had been battling for years, but as I got older, I got to understand just what her body was going through and the changes she had to make in her nutrition. This is what got me interested in further studying nutrition. The physical movement and working out really became a way for me to relieve stress and something I looked forward to each day while going through the difficult times. I started to really enjoy the way I was able to change my body and loved the feeling of going up in weight on my squats or getting a faster mile time. This passion for having a goal with my workouts led me to competing in bikini body-building competitions. These competitions were fun for me because they allowed me to challenge my body while giving me a goal to push toward. Soon after graduating college, I moved from a small town in Missouri to LA. After a couple of years working at a gym, my partner Julius and I started our own personal training business. With similar passions, we wanted to be able to reach a wider audience while sharing our knowledge and passion for health and wellness.
After a couple of years of training, we decided to start a YouTube channel. We would post workouts and videos to our Instagram pages but wanted to branch off to a platform where we could create a community. When the pandemic hit, we were only a few months into building our channel. We decided to record and film a few workouts, initially thinking it would be beneficial for people who were home without a gym or equipment. What obviously turned into a longer duration of gyms being shut down, we began getting more requests for videos and saw the impact that our workouts had for people all over the world. We were touched and inspired to keep creating because we knew these workouts would give people something to look forward to each day and keep them moving and active during a difficult time. Being someone who turns to physical activity as a form of stress relief, I knew how important this could be while being on lockdown or having your gym shut down. Hearing the feedback of people thankful to have instruction, fun workouts, and a community gave us motivation to continue getting creative and building our channel. We both still currently also personal train as well. It is such a rewarding feeling to be able to help people along their fitness and wellness journeys.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! Growing up, I faced a multitude of challenges to overcome; poverty, abuse, a single mother battling cancer. Then, five months after moving to LA, my mom sadly passed away from her battle with colon cancer. It really took me a long time to understand how to navigate and continue my journey. Digging deep into the things that grounded me and helped me push forward, I was able to continue my passions with new motivation and encouragement. I was even more inspired now to help others with their health and wellness journeys. Then, after battling a few health issues of my own, I was diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disorder in October of 2020. However, I saw this as a blessing because it helped to open the door for me to reach a whole new community of people that I could help with my knowledge and experience!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about One Body LA, Juice And Toya?
Our personal training business is called One Body LA. We chose this name because we believed in achieving health and wellness within the body as a whole. We wanted to help with not just physical health but mental and emotional as well! We specialize in helping others make lifestyle changes in order to reach their goals. This can be anything from body fat loss, muscle gain, or even learning how to lift weights. We feel that we are set apart from others because we are really engaged and personable with our clients. The same can be said for our YouTube Channel- Juice and Toya. We try to stay active and engaged with our community of subscribers and try to listen to the feedback when creating and posting videos. We love having the ability to offer multiple training services to where anyone can benefit. We understand that some people thrive best on one on one training or customized online plans. However, that may not be an option for some due to finances or location- so we put a lot of effort and time into creating our videos so that they still have quality knowledge and information as well!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

I feel like I have overcome a multitude of challenges so that I can share my story and inspire others to overcome their obstacles as well.
