Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Grayson.
Hi Kate, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In my late 20s, the life and career that I was steadily building came to an abrupt halt…
After receiving a life-changing diagnosis of chronic Lyme disease, I realized that I would have to leave my job — plunging me into deep distress and anxiety about money. I was an unemployed, full-time patient, watching the career and bank account I’d worked so hard for slowly slip away — and suddenly finding myself questioning my priorities, values, and purpose.
I experienced firsthand just how much financial anxiety can eat away at your well-being, and I began to see how many loved ones were also plagued by financial stress and uncertainty — with no one to turn to for honest guidance, everyday management advice, and the tools to succeed. I set to work on teaching myself specific strategies around value-based budgeting, debt reduction, and lessening financial anxiety — and I saw all of my efforts literally pay off.
Beyond Money was borne from the desire to share my knowledge, tactics, and candid counsel — and the results I see with clients are truly extraordinary, with an average of almost twenty thousand dollars saved for the future and debt paid off within three months — while still living their dream life in the present.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My health has been my biggest obstacle — and probably always will be. Fortunately, my treatments worked well and everything is infinitely better than it was before. But chronic Lyme never really “goes away,” so I always have to remain vigilant about my health.
This has meant that as I build my company, I’ve had to be a lot more thoughtful about how and when I work… I know that if I work too much or too hard, a Lyme remission will be soon to follow. This has been wildly frustrating at times but has also forced me to learn what types of work will and won’t move the needle. I think it’s actually helped me to build a more sustainable business — definitely an unexpected side bonus of my health struggles!!
