Exploring Life & Business with Jordan Stewart of [Prime Life]

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Stewart.

Hi Jordan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Prime Life was founded in 2012 when we were just juniors in High School. The idea to launch this clothing brand stemmed from our love for fashion and roots of entrepreneurship. We started by raising money to produce 100 t-shirts with our logo on them, used our social media savvy to show our friends then went and sold them at school. After this, we never looked back. We had no idea what we were doing or getting ourselves into at the time, but we fell in love with the process. We then split up to attend universities San Jose State, Arizona State and Wheaton College, expanding our reach across the nation. We continued to operate the brand part-time. Fast forward to today and our mission and brand ideology are a direct reflection of who we (the owners) are today. We are creating a culture that empowers the pursuit of one’s passion; even if that means going Against All Odds. Our product and message reflect this idea.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
A “bumpy road” would be an understatement describing the path we have taken to get to where we are today. The streetwear industry is a monster and there’s really no blueprint to success. It comes in all shapes and forms in this industry. As a result, you kind of have to learn what works on the fly. Because we started at such a young age, we really had no idea what we’re doing strategically or financially. We were literally fueled by the passion. However, our lack of experience resulted in plenty of mistakes and lessons learned along the way including instances such as producing an entire collection only to realize there was a typo on the shirts or being taken advantage of by the people we did business because we were a bit naïve to how to do business at such a young age.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
[Prime Life] is a streetwear brand. Our mission is to create a culture that empowers the pursuit of one’s passion. Owners Kyle Young, Tim Crome, and Jordan Stewart are best friends that began the brand in High School in Chino Hills, CA. and all went on to earn their Bachelor’s degrees in 2017/2018 graduating. Jordan and Tim both attended San Jose State. Kyle attended Arizona State. This gave us the opportunity to expand our market across different areas of the nation. The college experience was also extremely helpful as we all majored in business. However, the best result from attending universities is the networking opportunities it presented. What sets Prime Life apart from others is we are building a community of people who can identify with pushing a culture of empowering those around you to pursue their passion, even if it’s Against All Odds (our tagline).

Each of our collections brings a different and unique message of empowerment. Whether it’s empowering the communities of color to pursue unfamiliar sports like golf or simply empowering our community to Have A Good Day, our clothes are something anyone can rock and carry themselves with confidence and contagious aura. If I had to choose one thing we are most proud of, I think it would be the fact that we are still here, almost nine years later. When we started in High School, a lot of our peers did not believe in us nor see our vision. I feel like this has subconsciously been our driving force over the years and we continue to improve at our craft. With the experience we have gathered and the hurdles we’ve been through, nothing will stop us from making the ultimate difference and fulfilling our purpose.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
While running the business, we (the owners) all have our own respective Monday-Friday 9-5 job that we are also passionate about. So it is key that we utilize our time wisely.
