Exploring Life & Business with Ilana Grines of Daily Therapy Dose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ilana Grines.

Hi Ilana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I think about how I started, I can only assume my journey to therapy began in high school. In my senior year of high school, I created a mentoring program for 6th-grade girls. Since then, my passion for working with others and helping them achieve their best selves has only grown tenfold. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a major in psychology, I interned in many community mental health settings before applying to graduate school for my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. Since graduating and receiving my Master’s Degree, I started my own private practice and website “Daily Therapy Dose (DTD)” aka @DailyTherapyDose on all channels. My long-term goal is to hire more therapists and eventually create an app that brings mental health resources and services to people from all over the world with just a click! Unsurprisingly, COVID has certainly added some extra bumps in the road. In addition to all of the typical COVID-related stressors, I started my private practice and DTD while still carrying on a full-time job as a school therapist and counselor. I am proud to say I am just a few weeks away from focusing full-time on Private Practice and DTD.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle throughout creating my own business has been remembering that I am only one person. I felt like the world needed more mental health clinicians and resources and there was a real lack. All of us therapists were/are stretched thin, and I think the struggle is knowing that no matter how hard I work, I will not be able to aid everyone on their journey. That’s part of the reason I created DTD – to create a community!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Daily Therapy Dose?
Both my private practice and Daily Therapy Dose are safe spaces created with the goal of helping people stay present. The present moment is the only place we can truly do the work I focus on: learning about one’s relationships and filling up our mental and emotional toolboxes with the proper tools to conquer anxieties and traumas. Daily Therapy Dose destigmatizes mental health, provides access to resources, and starts important conversations in the mental health domain. While I am currently the only therapist on our team, I aim to have a group of mental health clinicians pooling their knowledge to service a variety of needs. We hope to hold groups, individual sessions, create an app, and more in the future. What makes DTD different is that we understand the millennial/Gen Z population and their needs. We use social media to reach our target audiences and strive to stay current with trends and resources.

I am most proud of starting Daily Therapy Dose, even though there are large companies to compete with. I worked for some of those and hope to use my knowledge to strengthen Daily Therapy Dose’s mission and longevity. There is an authenticity behind our brand that I hope to maintain as we grow and shift for what is needed.

I hope your readers follow along on our journey and engage with @dailytherapydose. This is a work in progress, just like many of us. My hope is that readers can add their voice to the mix and help us grow into the platform we are aiming to be.

What matters most to you? Why?
The things that matter most to me are making and maintaining meaningful connections with others. I love to keep learning, and I think I learn most from others. Whether that be through my clients, the individuals I interact with online, or my travels, I feel like I gain a real sense of accomplishment in listening and immersing myself in others’ experiences.
