Exploring Life & Business with Alexandre Berenger of Bonjour Raclette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandre Berenger.

Hi Alexandre, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised all over the world from Ivory Coast in Africa, to France & Spain in Europe and to Singapore in Asia. My travels were partly due to my French Chef father who opened restaurants and hotels and partly due to my step-father who works as an expat worker for Airbus as an aerospace engineer. I am also Filipino from my mother, and I connect both strongly with my French culture and Filipino culture. Being so immersed in the restaurant and hospitality industry internationally my entire life, it’s lead me to my passion for culture and culinary experiences.

I’ve attended business school in Quebec but quickly realized this wasn’t my passion. Moved to Southern California about six years ago in hopes of one day pursuing my dream and opening my own restaurant. I’ve worked in multiple restaurants and hotels working as a busser, food runner, server & bartender. Done it all in order to gain as much experience as possible.

The idea for Bonjour Raclette came to me about two years ago when I was hosting a Raclette dinner for my close friends. They never experienced Raclette, especially not the unique way I provided it. That evening became such a special memory for everyone that they were dying to share the experience again. That is when I realized I wanted to share this special family tradition of mine with anyone and everyone. Especially those who never had it. I wanted to create beautiful memories and experiences for others just as it was for me growing up.

I love helping and making people happy as well. Doing it through my business would be incredible. With the help of Bonjour Raclette, I try to help the community. Giving back is part of my up-bringing thanks to my beautiful Filipino mother. That is why once a month or more, I try to provide an unhoused person with one of their favorite meals they haven’t eaten in a long time. I am looking forward to giving back even more to the community as my business grows!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As any business, there’s always ups and downs. For the most part, it’s been up for Bonjour Raclette, a few speed bumps here and there. But adapting to new environments or changes has been something I’ve done my whole life. Moving around the world to new countries with new cultures and new environments has made me able to adapt to anything thrown at me. So to whatever challenges I have in the future for Bonjour Raclette, we will take it head on and adapt and come out even better.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bonjour Raclette is a unique French-European dining experience revolves around Raclette melted cheese, grilled meats & seafood and phenomenal homemade sauces! We offer private dinners at people homes from 4 people all the way to 32 people (for now). The day of the booking, I will show up 2 hours before your scheduled dinner in order to prep the ingredients and set up the full Raclette experience.

Once everyone is ready to start the dinner, I will go over the history of Raclette, explain the ingredients on the table and finally guide you through the experience. The experience isn’t just about the food, but it’s about human connection and in an era where people are always rushing to eat. We are trying to slow down the dinner process and for people sharing the meal to bond with each other. And honestly for us to bond with our clients as well.

Once the dining experience is over, we will clean your table and kitchen and leave like we were never there.

What truly sets us apart in Southern California is that there is no such food as raclette, and especially not the way we provide it. Nobody knows what it is besides a rare few. But as people are taking a chance and trusting me in these dinner experiences, people fall in love with Raclette. I believe there’s a market for the food we offer and I can.t wait till everyone has tasted these new flavors. Restaurant in the near future and it will be the restaurant everyone will want to go.

I think I’m most proud about the people I’ve met doing Bonjour Raclette, I’ve met people from all walks of life and it has been amazing to get to know everyone. I’m truly blessed and grateful to interact with some amazing human beings and to bring joy and create memories for them.

Besides our private dinners, we also create events under the name Bonjour Soirée. European vibe events with craft cocktails, Hors D’oeuvres, Raclette dinner, dessert and live music at all times. They are events that you don’t want to miss and would want to experience. We currently create these events Once a month or every other month. Each one of them are in different settings such a rooftop, a beach house view, Spanish Courtyard, etc… We also sell our Famous Bonjour Aioli, people love our Aioli to use for everyday food, one day it will be in stores all over the country.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me most is happiness. Happiness in my own life and happiness in other people’s lives. I’ve battled with depression for a long time (Most people don’t know) and being happy is my priority and bringing joy to others as well. Life is so precious and short, so why waste it. Do whatever it is that makes you happy and disregard what society or anyone says.
