Daily Inspiration: Meet Zonekidd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zonekidd.

Hi Zonekidd, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started taking art more seriously around 2015 when I was in 7th grade. Thats when I took account of how creative I was so I pursued music production, photography, graphic design and writing all on my own. I started making everything on my phone cause I had a saying “you can make complex art with simple tools” and didn’t upgrade my tools up until 2020 my whole life ever since a child did I want to be an artist, even when they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Throughout my journey making art, I suffered with self-hatred and an eating disorder a victim of self-destruction that was only caused upon myself. I was over 300lb in 9th grade and set out my journey to reach lose weight in a healthy manner up until I reached my goal. Eventually, anorexia and bulimia found their way into my life due to fear of losing all my progress. A vicious cycle of self-destruction and a loss of passion was set about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My eating disorder and my mental struggles, I eventually overcame a vast majority of my biggest struggles and get to express with my craft.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a musician, a photographer, a designer, a writer, a painter and a mental health advocate. I couldn’t be most proud of either of them for the reasoning is that they make up for who I am, without any of them I would be lost. The way my art is given sets me apart my artwork is very versatile, beautiful and dark (depressing at times).

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Sometimes you have to learn on your own because eventually someone mentoring you ends up learning things that would have been more authentic if you had learned on your own.
