Daily Inspiration: Meet Upscale Dave

Today we’d like to introduce you to Upscale Dave.

Hi Upscale Dave, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In August of 2014, I created my own streetwear brand from the ground up with $4,000 that I won from an accident case. The name of the brand was called Upscale General. The success of the brand grew very fast with the help of one of my best friend, 2 Cool who served as my brand ambassador at the time and help bring notoriety to the brand. Within less than a year, Upscale General was featured in celebrity fashion shows and also seen worn by number of celebrities and socialites. My self-taught marketing techniques is what helped the brand grow. I would collaborate with other streetwear brands and creative direct for lifestyle events to help bring awareness to Upscale General and increase sales. Unfortunately, due to oversaturation in streetwear and declination of hype, Upscale General sales began to decrease and was defunct in 2017. On September of 2018, I launched a high-end unisex contemporary fashion brand called Haus of Cité Soleil. The name of this brand derives from the city, Cité Soleil, which is an extremely impoverished and densely populated commune located in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area in Haiti. I partner up with different trusted non-profit Haitian organizations to donate 10% of each sale. These donations will help improve the economy and the education system of Haiti. For my first two collections, I partnered up with Project 4 Haiti to help advance education in Haiti. For my third capsule back in 2019, which was a basketball collection, I partnered up with the Haitian National Basketball team and Federation Haitienne De Basket to emphasize and advance the use of basketball in Haiti as a vehicle for social well-being. Being that I am of Haitian descent, have a hunger for knowledge, and love the sport of basketball, it was important for me to use my passion which is a fashion, as an outlet to give back to my heritage through basketball and education.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to success was very rocky our first two years due to us struggling to connect with our consumers. After our last drop in 2019, which was our Hustle in Style collection, we decided to take a seven months hiatus to rebrand our image. In July 2020, we decided to make our return in the midst of the pandemic with our Style on Time collection, which was our first successful collection. A month later, we dropped our Legends: 001 Basquiat t-shirt which helped our brand grow tremendously and was one of our fastest selling products. To close out 2020, we released a small capsule titled Pearl of the Caribbean which featured our Legends 002: Crewneck Sweatshirt to commemorate Arthur Ashe and Muhammad Ali, along with a signature golf SnapBack cap which is currently available for purchase on our WEBSTORE.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a serial hustler in style bridging the gap between fashion & retail tech. Outside of my fashion brand, Haus of Cité Soleil, I am CEO/Co-Founder of Style on Time, Co. Style on Time is a personal shopping mobile application that allows consumers to shop from local boutique retailers and receive their orders within 1-3 business hours. We consider ourselves the ÜberEats of fashion. In the past, I served as a Data Analyst for The Webster and I also acquired higher education in fashion from LIM majoring in Fashion Merchandising (BBA).

What’s next?
I am currently working on Haus of Cité Soleil’s signature sneakers which the people can expect to be released soon, along with a huge collaboration with a major fashion company. Follow @hausofcitesoleil on Instagram to stay updated!
